Timeless, brand new, daily for $10k

Any suggestions? Particularly non Rolex as for the moment the only piece that would work would be a yachtmaster 40mm blue dial but that is about as blingy as I would go.

For example I have a SD4k (other pieces in my signature) and think that fits the bill perfectly. Looking for a second piece which similarly fits the following criteria (in order of importance):


1) "daily suitable". Will not technically be a daily wearer but I want it to be versatile. Does not need to be worn with a suit, preferable if is it NOT dressy in fact as I have a PP 5396r

2) Realistic expectation that it would be wearable in 20 years (impossible to say buy hopefully removes some "fad" watches). Some level of history helps but is not critical. If new from a dealer must be obtainable in 12 months

3) $10k ish brand new. Happy to consider higher mrsp pieces at a discount if they can be had new from an AD, or also at a premium from grays as long as they are new

I’d personally save $6.5K and get a Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight. DNA, great looking, tool-ish and a superb daily.

Great idea. I love those and recently sold a black bay black ETA which I think is one of the best value for money pieces available right now (and I bought new with a discount...).

However, for full colour the SD4k is my first son's birth year, bought pre-owned for $10-11k. My second son is due April 2019 so I would love to have comparable watches for both that I can wear for 20+ years then decide whether to gift. As great as the BB58 is I don't want to make the second feel hard done to (if in 20 years the Rolex vs Tudor relationship is still the same) so am trying to spend 10-11k

Thanks for the input though. Honestly I feel like I need to get something in the $9-11k range. Given how watch prices can move at least I can then honestly say the pieces started out comparably valuable and I loved both my sons equally

That blue dial looks great! I'm not sure if I am a diamonds guy but would reserve judgement until I saw one in person. I am pretty sure the 41mm would be too large for me so the 36mm you suggest may be the best DJ. I tried an AP 15450 on last week but that felt small at 37mm so I would need to try one and see how it fits.

Also, I wouldn't get the regular three hand (which I love btw) "new" close to budget as the latest models are way more expensive than even the older chrono I used to own .

I like this too! it’s 39.5mm not 41mm FYI and imo wears like a 38-39mm. It’s definitely a head turner. I prefer the diamond dials because imo it balances out the dial better.

Moser Pioneer. stunning. absolutely love it. versatile. impeccable. love the blue fume dial. you need to try this in person. big. bold. sporty. but i'm absolutely biased.

Breguet - Marine Big Date Diver. love the previous generation.

JLC - Polaris. i like all the new offerings.

Panerai - i think given the supply gut, you'll get a solid discount on new pieces especially from the ADs. still a solid watch and great brand. would look at the new 1389 - even though 47mm can be initially intimidating, try it on. Prefer the 1389 to the 389 due to the slimmer case size.

I think the white 34mm Oyster Perpetual is the most versatile watch Rolex ever made. Looks great in the office, underneath a suit, around the house, grinding in the gym, climbing mountains, doesn't matter it always looks good.

Great suggestions. The Moser dial looks beautiful but I have never seen one. I will check these out and consider a JLC perhaps. Brequet somehow seem too formal to me and I would need to try Panerai in the flesh as I am unsure of the sizing. I also worry Panerai may not age as well but appreciate they have some nice vintage stuff so maybe I'm wrong there.

Fair point! I have been indecisive of late and traded/consolidated a decent amount. Guess that doesn't mean I can't reconsider them again though I guess.

The modern 34mm OP wears like a 5 digit 36mm.

Moser is higher end horologically but maybe the Yachtmaster is more in the ballpark of my SD4k which is my first son's birth year?

I wouldn't want the second son to not be into watches and not appreciate the Moser nor the first to be into horology and hate the fact he "only" has a Rolex professional while his brother has a Moser

I second the IWC Big Pilot. The Yachtmaster 40 with blue dial is also a solid choice.

The more I think about it the more I think this is the way forward. Both the sd4k and black GMT are similar enough to be in the same conversation but different enough to allow me to enjoy separately while my know do grow up. Both should age well and are classics that have so far stood the test of time.

I like the blnr on other people just not sure on my wrist. I want 2019 dated papers, 100%. I would buy used... my sd4k was preowned and above list price, but I’ve no idea how nuts prices may or may not be next year . Plus I want to build my AD relationship if possible.
