Poll: 5980/1R vs 5990/1R

I am smitten with the combo of blue dial and rose gold case ever since my wife got her Royal Oak. When I saw the new 5990/1R (not mine unfortunately) at my AD, it absolutely blew my mind. I think this is a wonderful release by Patek.

Which heavy hitter do you personally prefer - the 5980/1R or the 5990/1R?

These are both amazing, I’ll go 5980 as there is more open dial to see

Will this fit you my man

I'm fine with the thickness and the diameter should be fine because the 5726 is the same measurement across.

I voted the 5990!

I'd go for the black dial here, but my ideal chrono layout would be the 5980R with a Bracelet option, I might sell my 5711R for that.

I prefer the 5980. Plus the black dial goes better with the yellow gold.

I showed my wife the 5990/1r and she said "ugh - that's even more gross than yours" (5980/1r)!!!!

Need to see more shots of the 5990 but on the basis it's bigger than the 5980 then I prefer the smaller one!

I'm a bigger fan of RG with black dial. I like the 5980/1r more.

Blue and yellow/rose gold is a fantastic combination and much needed and missed in the Patek lineup.

5980 as it has a less busy dial.

Imagine your blue 5726 in RG. That would be the ticket.

For me, the 5990 sits too clunky on my wrist and 5980 fits better but prefer the RG/Blue combo of the 5990

5980 1/R for a few reasons...

1. Black goes with more outfit choices

I don't think I could wear a Blue dial/gold watch with a black/gray or charcoal suit. I know it's a sports watch but for me I'm in professional attire most of the time and I LOVE rose gold and black. Both are neutral colors basically so my choice is 5980 1/r

Secondly, the dial of the 5990 is too busy for my taste. It seems like the birthchild of a Nautilus and an Aquanaut travel time. And the fact they had to move the Patek logo to the bottom instead of adjusting the movement to suit the logo staying on top makes me feel the watch design itself didn't receive the attention it needed during the design phase. It's a Patek at the end of the day. The logo shouldn't have to be bounced around to suit the movement, but rather the opposite should be the case.

5990/1R!!! For me, 5990 is the ultimate grail Nautilus (beautiful, useful complications - especially dual time), and this year's release in rose gold / blue dial is just FANTASTIC!!! I would absolutely go for the 5990/1R - without a slightest doubt or hesitation. It's the king of all current Nautilus (the 5976 is still THE ultimate Nautilus for me, but from the current lineup, 5990 takes the crown).

5980

I do not like the date at the top center of the 5990 or the patek label in the bottom seconds sub dial

5990/1r. In my opinion it blows the 5980/1r totally away. I don’t find the dial of the 5990 too busy as some have said, it’s just more interesting to me with the extra complications. Besides which, the 5980 has a tiny dial, it’s too dominated by the oversized bulls eye. The dial of the 5990 seems much larger, maybe because the bezel is not as thick.

I prefer blue dial over black; gmt functionality over chronograph and with the 5990/1R being more aesthetically pleasing to my eye

So the 5990 would be my choice

- but the likelihood of anyone offering me the option to purchase one is highly unlikely.

I’m okay with the entire nautilus collection but 5990. Can’t stand the 2 circles in vertical line. Not to mention the current retail price of 5990/1r at x2.5 or even x3 in some places. It’s beyond out of reach for most. Forget about getting this piece at retail. A guy in my area had to bundle roughly 500k USD for 5990/1r this month. The competition is fierce.

I prefer (and have) the 5980. The other is too cluttered for my taste.
