Thoughts and advice on the GSOTM

Hi all,

hoping to snag myself a Grey side of the moon soon, waiting for a decent one to come out on the local forums. Any current or previous owners here that can offer some advice or thoughts in general about the watch? As I understand it you can have it both with an “ordinary” clasp as well as a butterfly clasp?

It's a wonderful reference I still love but moved it on due to wrist size. I have slimmer wrists so my preference ended up being for smaller/slimmer watches.

But the watch itself is beautiful and super comfortable on many levels. I prefer the deployant just as a security measure due to the ceramic case. But the tang and buckle will be slightly slimmer. Lume is beautiful to admire and really is a versatile watch otherwise for casual/dress.

Omega made too many of these but the secondary pricing on them makes them an absolute steal.

Thanks for your input :) I have medium to large wrist so I'm not worried about the size. I think a deployant is a good security measure as well.

What do you mean with Omega made too many of these? As in numbers manufactured or just that Omega makes way too many different models?

Yes, the used market price of these are absolutely manageable :)

I have the Meteorite GSOTM and love it. I would definitely get the deployant version, omega's strap/deployants are uber comfy. I find it wears incredibly smaller than its size suggests (have 6.75" wrists). A thread awhile back discussed how omega doesn't measure the case size correctly, and I find that to be the case. I'd pick it up if I were you - the dial seems to lend to multiple strap options as well! I believe 1William has multiple pics in the "what omega are you wearing today" thread showing them off!

I've tried on the GSOTM several times and it is on my "eventually" list, although my money is currently earmarked for my first PM watch. The only thing I worry about is the case thickness.

If you like they GSOTM, you should also consider the Apollo 8 DSOTM.

It is a little thinner with the hand wound movement rather than the auto in the GSOTM.

Yes to both heh.....they were insanely successful with the Dark Side....then Grey Side came....still insanely successful....then they just loosened the faucet for all the different variations and production flooding the market.

It does wear smaller than the measurement suggests though which is nice for smaller wrists....I just decided for me I needed slimme/smaller watches after going through different styles. I do think it's a killer watch and so does the young man that bought it from me.

I have one. It's for sale, but I keep doubting myself because it is just. So. Cool.

It is a smidgen big for me though, with my tiny waif-like wrists.

But if it doesn't sell and I have to keep it forever and wear in in rotation, that would not be a bad thing.

Agree completely on those first two points. The Omega strap with deployant is the best and most comfortable I have worn. Looks great too. As for the size it wears nowhere near as big as the Omega specs make it seem. All of the coaxial Moonwatches wear as roughly 42 mm watches. They included the crown in the measurement and full with of the case. The bezel and dial are substantially smaller and make the watch wear smaller. I love the size personally.

I just found this pic of me trying on a normal gsotm. I have 6.75” wrists, so hopefully a non close up will show how well it wears. I should snap a pic of my wife’s nomos to show how lug length makes all the difference in the world, those hang off my wrist, and it’s a 36mm.

I have this watch, and it is beautiful. However, I have found I don't wear it much for a couple reasons. First, regardless of the horizontal, it stands very high on the wrist. It doesn't go under most dress shirt sleeves, and its really hard not to bang it on things. This leads to the next point. The design/shape of the bezel looks great, but it is not what I would call "robust". The edge of the bezel is what you will bang on things, and it has sharp angles and is made of soft gold so I worry too much about dings. I just don't find it to be a practical wearable watch.

I’ve tried so hard to convince myself to buy the DSOTM. Both the Grey and Dark are very cool. But neither wowed me. The material is super cool and is probably the reason you get one. You can pick up the steel version for less. But why buy another SS when you can get ceramic . I’d recommend the DSOTM. I really like the strap material. The watch feels great on. I definitely would recommend it.
