How much is to much for a broke down tudor sub?

Hey guys I'm new here. I've been around vintage watches most of my life, my father is a hoarder of broken down watches and they stay that way. I myself have just acquired my second d rolex a pretty mint sub. But I have my eye on a tudor sub on ebay that's listed for parts it looks very rough, but seems to be complete. What would be top dollar for a 7016/0 needing hands, and serviced at a minimum with no band?

The problem with that one is it will never be top dollar. The wear on the case will prevent it from ever getting near top dollar.

That watch came in two flavors, Rose with Big Bubble Sweep or Snowflake SWISS only dial. Both are very difficult and costly to acquire.

Are you thinking of one for your self? Or to build and flip?

I want it good enough to wear to work. I'm a construction inspector, I'm not wearing an 8k sub to work or even a 4k datejust. Aftermarket band leather or nylon. Something I'm not scared to wear or devastated if lost. Plus I like things that look well used and still work like new. I'm just wandering could it be bought and serviced for 1500$? Would it be worth 1500ish after that? I'm really wanting to acquire a tudor sub or gmt.

The missing chunk of the case is not good. Seller claims he has not pulled the retain ring off. (Mmm. Yeah). The midcase is likely for the garbage.

It may be salvageable, it may not be. He does go out of his way to hide that in all the photos though.

I agree with you. I'm not sure if this mid-case can be mended. The movement seems beyond salvation as well.

I know patience is a virtue in these scenarios. 1st off I hate ebay, prices seem to be inflated on anything you buy. Where could a person source a vintage tudor in project worthy condition. They are quite rare in my parts. I hit multiple pawn shops weekly and have for almost 20 yrs. My parents are antique dealers specializing in high end estate sales. My father nor I run across these....ever.

The midcase makes up much of the value of the thing. Dial hands and movement are junk. So it's the case and crown. Best part is the midcase.

So no one has any other ideas on sourcing a good sub project?

You need to figure out how much a project you want to tackle. For some, that listing would BE a project, albeit a larger one. How much of a complete watch do you want to start off with? Working movement and case only? Correct dial? Correct hands? Or just something all correct but neglected for years. That's the great thing about project watches: You can tailor it to how much effort and time and money you want to put into it. If you know what you're doing, or willing to take the time to learn everything about a watch you have targeted, eBay is a great place to start because you can pick and choose.

Dial and handsets are hard to come by. I have one but it took me years to find and i am looking for the right mid case. That ebay one is not it. Case looks poor. Dial and hands will take at least a year of daily searching. Imho....not worth it since case is not that great.

Keep your eyes peeled for parts on the forum here.

For one, there is someone selling Tudor 7928 case right now. You will need movement, dial, hands and bezel.

Projects don't usually land on your lap, you gotta go find them.

It's toast. Just get a Seiko SKX or Turtle for a few hundred bucks if you need a beater for heavy-duty or manual work.

"Something I'm not scared to wear or devastated if lost" and the goal of a Tudor Sub or GMT don't seem compatible the way prices have now gone. You'd be looking at the higher four figures to five figures USD for a decent piece that will retain value/desirability and be proudly bequeathable.

You'll never regret buying a really great piece, but you'll inevitably regret buying a POS.

Go check it out now, 1 hr to go it's at 1500$ that's way more than I anticipated. And yes I concede it's more of a project than I'm willing to undertake at this time.

Really? I thought it was the best part of it. I want a pic of that midcase with the retaining ring removed.
