I love this watch..

It's been a long time coming and tempted me sorely in original white gold..

The movement is nothing short of a mechanical computer marvel, although it is limited in it's abilities and geared for regatta racers and club-house yachtsmen..

Still, in person it is stunning. I'm afraid that they will set the price beyond what I want to pay for a Stainless Steel watch so I won't have one on my wrist any time soon..

However, I put this one in the category of the old moon phase and highly complicated watches that Rolex collectors now search ceaselessly for and pay astronomical figures to have..

Yes, if you are wanting a true future "collectible" that will bring huge box-office figures, this is the one to get..

Its nice for the YM2 fans of the world, a bit more accessable than the gold versions. I can also see this becoming a collectable in time.

Agree that it'll be beyond any SS price from Rolex in the past. It will set a new record on that score for sure.

But it is on my short list to get in the next few years.

Larry, it seems to me that the WG model will be VERY scarce in future generations. The fact that you will be able to get one in SS now will surely decrease sales of the WG model.

Doesn't it seem that the WG model will be even more collectible?

I think that the WG model will command high prices and perhaps be "the" one to have..

This one has the potential to sell more and, therefore, be more distributed in the community. A high dollar collectible needs three things..

1. It needs to be somewhat rare. Moon Phases and Newmans are that. This one will not fly off the shelves but will still move.

2. It needs to have appeal. Again, this has that (both pro and con), whereas some extremely rare models (like the Sub 168000) simply don't appeal to anybody.

3. It must be attainable.. That means that there must be enough of them to be more than a footnote in a book, but tangible and available at some level..

If enough of the SS models are sold to hit all three buttons, it will be a mega-hit with the WG simply icing for the elite few collectors with deep pockets..

I think the WG will be less visible on wrists over time because the SS will capture a lot of YM-II customers.

But I also think that the WG model's bezel will become the #1 mod on the SS YM-II. It would make it the perfect pairing for owners of the existing Platty 40mm YM.

Would any one of you sell the full 18kt YG gold to buy this? i simply do not wear the YG as much since i have an 18Kt GMT (which i dont wear much) & i have a DD II rose (which i dont wear much)

... I guess I would not be too happy if I already owned a YMII in WG and then they released SS that is pretty close.

Would be like paying for a Blue "smurf" to have a SS come a year later.

Regardless, love the new YMII, I agree, top of the 2013 release.

I actually think the availability of a SS version, will depress used prices of the YG/WG versions. I say this because given the choice of a used YG/WG version, or a new SS version, many buyers will opt for the new SS, unless the used ones are attractively priced.

Of course, this depends on the delta. . .

Stick the bezel from the WG model on & who would know the difference...? The lume surrounds are different but who cares...?

I'm a huge admirer of the Yacht-Master II. I tried one on when they first came out & was so impressed. I would have no use for the complication but it would give me a warm fuzzy feeling inside to know that it's there. No date would be a pain, but I could get around that. Wear a Day date on my other wrist!!

This watch isn't photogenic- you have to see it in the flesh & wear it. It's not top heavy at all & I wore the gold version. It's wonderfully comfy.

It's a nice and interesting movement, but, it's not "useful" like a moon phase and it's wrapped in a questionable design (the bezel text). Plus, it's BIG. But, yes, the SS design looks good otherwise.

If the other thread is correct and it is priced at 12500 pounds that puts it right around 20k US I believe. A bit out of my range for a SS model. Who knows if that price is accurate or not, but I truly truly hope it's not
