I’ve owned both and imo you gotta go ceramic for the glidelock bracelet. It helps with the mass of the watch and makes wearing more comfortable. Again just my

Sea dweller 16600 for sure one of mine done well over 600 hours underwater and had a very hard life compared with today's mainly pampered Rolex watches. Now almost 20 years old and never skipped a beat a true classic Rolex. Not a fan of ceramic inserts or the different case, yes some say the newer clasp is a improvement, but cannot see anything wrong with the old clasp it sure has stood the test of time and quite a bit of abuse on my part as a working tool.

At half the price it was an easy choice
for me to go with the classic recently. I’ll likely keep this one forever Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I had the 16600 and upgraded to 116600 before Rolex dicontinued. Never looked back since. Love the size, ceramic and glidelock.

Of all the 6 digits the 116600 is the closest you'll get to the 5 digit case proportions. So this is the rare case I'd choose a 6 digit over its ancestor. It's a tough choice though and there's really no wrong answer in this one.

i have also found the older version top heavy, partly as a result of the lighter bracelet. i've owned a couple of the 16600 newer version firmly tips the scales for me with the satin dial and the full minute track on the bezel, while the added adjustability and sturdiness of the modern bracelet effectively balances the weight for the heavier Sea Dweller (compared to standard subs and gmts) this is a rare preference for me toward a ceramic version over the aluminium. currently i own a 14060m due to a preference for the lack of a date... the SD if no date option would be exquisite. Also worth mentioning the short run of the modern SD 116600.

Having now owned every SD model except the transitional 16660, my vote would go for the 16600. I loved my SD4K but ultimately grew tired of the ceramic. It was almost too sterile and lacked soul. The 126600 didn't stick because it was over-the-top for a true dive watch.
The 16600 is difficult to beat overall and the cash saved over a 116600 can be put into a different bracelet or clasp if the tuna can truly bothers you. Personally, I'm all for tuna cans and lug holes these days. |

The ceramic looks like shiny plastic, all the extra tick marks make the bezel busy, and the lines of the maxi case are too clunky IMO. The glidelock does nothing for me, so I'll stick with my 16600.

I’m wanting to buy an 16600 at the moment, but I voted 116600, I have room for two SDs, but if I needed to have only one I think I’d keep the 116600. Some find the Bezel too busy, I see it as more symmetrical. I don’t have a aluminum bezeled sport watch, so I can’t directly compare, but I do like the ceramic more than aluminum I’ve seen on other people.
It’s a pretty nice watch, maybe my favourite and the relative rarity is a bonus. All that being said second hand 16600s seem underpriced relative to the rest of the 5 digit sports models.

Picked this up earlier in the year and it is one of the favorites in a 10 watch rotation. I have a fairly equal balance of 5 and 6 digits in the Sub and GMT part of the collection and like it that way.was able to get a excellent full set for mamt thousands less than the 6 digit. I like the fact that the bezel on the 16600 only has minutes marked between 0 and 15. Both are great watches.

Great thread and some great pics! Have been a Seadweller guy pretty much since the word go and have been fortunate to have owned most of the later ones. Currently have both the SD16600 and SD50......superb watches in any version and would recommend any of them. Hoping to pass my F serial 16600 to my grandson (currently 3years old) some day, although by that stage, goodness knows how people will be telling the time?

I'd pick the 116600. But I do have a soft spot for 1665/16660.

Like most have already stated I’d go 116600. The glide lock clasp seems somewhat gimmicky if you’ve never owned a Rolex with the feature before but after you have, man, you’ll wonder why they all don’t have it. The ceramic bezel makes me less fearful of dings and scratches and the more solid bracelet balances out what would otherwise be a slightly top heavy watch. As has already been mentioned, the 116600 is the shortest SS model produced to date by Rolex; which I find pretty cool, but it shouldn’t be the primary reason for a purchase. I recently just picked mine up, so you could say I’m still in my honeymoon phase. But, I don’t see this piece going anywhere anytime soon.
