Icon7 Incoming from Japan

Hi everyone.

I just spent a long weekend in Japan, and was looking for a GS quartz to bring home. Not being very familiar with the JDM models, I didn’t even realise there was a GS quartz with day/date option, and this one at Bic Camera really jumped out at me. They must be quite uncommon even in Japan, as the four ADs I went to afterwards had no stock.

Anyway, here it is, all shiny and brand new. The SBGT235.

Thanks guys

Patrick, is it a 1.3mm screwdriver that's required for the bracelet? The shop took out one, but I might need to take out a half link.

I probably won't be posting my entire collection, Brian, but it's interesting to compare this with my Tudor 76200. Both watches can be had for about the same price.

Congrats! Looks awesome.

Love stores in Japan. You can have IWC watches 5 steps away from washing machines ;-)

Nice looking GS! Are you able to negotiate at Bic Camera?

BTW, I visited Bic Camera and other similar stores when I was in Japan. They're awesome for tech nerds such as myself, but they have so much stuff, it's almost overwhelming!

Nice! I didn't realize they were still making them. I knew older models had it. Here mine (an older SBGT003 on aftermarket bracelet). For me half the fun of having the day is having it in kanji, even though it takes me a second longer to figure out what day it is.

Yeah, great for shopping with the wife (for cosmetics) and they're usually friendlier than the ADs, too.

No negotiating, but I did get another chunk off for using Visa card.

I was thinking about setting it to kanji, but i really like having the day reminder in English, too. I'll probably go with both from time to time.

Very nice! Never considered quartz GS before but this is a very handsome watch!

Just curious, does the day & date change instantaneously at midnight or does it roll over slowly in a span of a few hours?

Thanks. The date changes in 1/2,000th of a second according to GS. I haven't seen it yet, but I imagine the day change is similarly prompt.

(edit: go the 2:05 point in this video for the changing day/date: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AljD0dvhu1M)

Thanks for the info! I have seen before a slow-motion video of a quartz GS date change. If I find it again I would share it here. It would be equally amazing if it’s the same for the day-date versions.

I used a 1.2mm screw for Steve’s watch when I sized it for him. Wanna meet up? I’ll be more than happy to help you with resizing. :)
