Panerai Will Come Back

I’ve worn mostly Rolex for 30+ years and over the past few months picked up two newish Panerai (1392 & 524) and so far am thrilled with them. It’s different and customizable. The pin system is really cool, and the aesthetic is a bit old fashioned. I love the sandwich dials which are polar opposite to the precision layout of my current GMT and Exp 2. The value proposition on the used market now is huge IMHO.

I can’t walk through an airport each week without seeing dozens of Subs/GMTs, and most online posts re Rolex are about “should I buy this, will the value go up”, removing scratches, hoarding, and storing in safes. And people actually buy watches they don’t want just to buy whatever is “hot” right now?! I’ve never paid above retail for a new Rolex and never will.

I buy things to enjoy and wear, watches to me are a tool, not an investment.
I’m ok being a contrarian and enjoying some Panerai right now.

I have to agree...I’ve been in and out of many watches over the years not for profit just to try different ones...sick of Rolex and their BS for now and frankly find many of the people on the Rolex forums not so friendly...or just tired of the same old nonsense...currently have 2 1971seiko 6139 chronos and a 90s speedmaster and thinking of my next watch...tried the 662 on this weekend and WOW!

I still think there is a loyal fan base for Panerai, those that love their watches and don't care about the shifts in the market.

Panerai alienated its hardcore fan base by releasing almost identical variants of its emblematic pieces. It then went on a color spree, questionable multicolored dials etc. Historic Dive design with snap on backs...The Panerai DNA has been diluted to such an extent that consumers have lost the plot.

The silver lining for people who love the brand (like me) is that this will all go full circle. True icons will recover their desirability amongst aficionados and, short production run LE models will become hot again. It won’t be now, nor next year but, it will happen.

Not with Richmont as the umbrella.

Yep and the ironic thing is they sell more watches now than they ever have. The "base" that made alot of noise on the internet where nothing but flippers looking to make a buck and because they cant anymore they claim the brand is dead. Couldn't be further from the truth.

Really enjoying Panerai these days, extremely underrated IMHO.
Sandwich dials, crazy lume, strap customization - you don’t see the Rolex you’re wearing a dozen times each week - it’s fun.

I dunno I think I see just as many Panerai’s in the wild as Rolex (not many), but all Panerai’s look the same so
