Pre owned speedy

Hey guys, I came across a pre owned Speedmaster professional today, mid 2000s no box and papers. It would end up costing about $1200-1400 less than what a new one goes for. The bracelet has some stretch but honestly I’d wear this watch on black leather almost exclusively. In Canada I haven’t seen many pre owned deals on this watch, so you think this is a decent deal or should I just buy new and not worrying about potentially needing service in the near future and have a full set? It’s going for $3500 plus tax, and a new one can be had for about $5200.

Thanks

Your call, but a brand new one (boxes, papers outlandishly large box, even warranty card etc) can be had from some of the trusted sellers here for what the one your are considering costs. If it were me, I would go that route. If it were a tritium version, then sure I would put up with the bracelet stretch but not with a mid 2000's model which in all likelihood will need a service.

My opinion - better buying a new one

No papers, stretch, potential service, preowned marks etc

Not sure about your neck of woods but in UK - brand new can be picked up at 20% discount or 0% if you just wanted to put 10% down & keep your sum in the bank. Your name on papers, warranty, no need for service, no marks, crisp bracelet, all the goodies

Let us know how you go

Is the pre-owned watch you're considering priced at $3.5k USD, or is that CAD?

If it's in CAD, then that converts to ~$2.7k USD at today's conversion rate, and I suppose that's pretty reasonable.

If it's in USD, then I strongly agree with other respondents here: you can do better. Go to DavidSW's site now and you'll see one offered on the OEM black alligator strap and deployant with all of the accessories as new and a valid warranty card dated 5/17.

Are there tariffs involved if you buy from a trusted seller in the US?

If you can source one from a TS here and have it delivered to Canada then that is the route. If not, I would go to an AD and see what kind of discount you can get. If you are going to wear it on leather why pay for a bracelet? Save some there. Unless the watch you are looking at has been serviced, go ahead and add $500-700 into the price for a service. That puts you back to a new/newer watch. Good luck on your search.

I appreciate all of the input. Going to wait for a new one, discount isn't enough to make it worth my while, especially when considering I want a genuine black strap and clasp. Thanks.
