service etching codes in case backs?

As a layperson in watch repairs, I know that each watchmaker uses a number or code to identify their service to the watch. Is it conventional that the etchings also contain some kind of date in it's code to identify when it was serviced.

Suppose you have a Rolex that has been serviced twice by Rolex service centers and on an odd occasion by an independent watchmaker (not necessarily in that particular order), how is it possible to identify who worked on it at the very last time just by the codes?

Not sure of the answer, but I once brought a pocket watch in for service that was handed down to me from my grandfather. The guy who serviced it asked me if I would sell it to him as the person that taught him the trade had worked on it at one time.

Good question. The indy/eBay jeweler that "serviced" mine wrote with a blue felt pen "J", which is meaningless to the lay person.

Maybe, my question was not clear.

I was wondering if there was any way of chronologically seeing which watchmaker worked on it first and which worked on it last?
