WG Sub or WG GMTII ?

Hey Guys ,

Trying to decide between the Smurf ( WG sub 116619LB ) or the WG GMT II ( 116719 BLRO) !

For background I own SS white Daytona ( old non ceramic model ) and black SS sub ( 116610LN ).

Anyway tried both on at AD and preferred the Smurf but the the AD said I should get the GMT seeing at I already owned a Sub and this would provide some variety to my collection.

I have always drooled over the smurf so I kind of know the answer but wanted to hear the opinions of fellow fanatics.

Thanks in advance for opinions.

Pepsi GMT.

Smuf is too basic of a blue and doesn't pop.

Follow your heart and not what the AD is trying to sell. Both are great but do not compromise on a large purchase.

There are several threads on this very question.... it typically comes out fairly close between the two. Go with your heart! If you pick the sub, just make sure you love blue, cause it’s a lot of blue, and not a subtle blue. It’s a beautiful watch, as is the GMT. I think the GMT is just more subtle.

I’d get the BLRO over the Smurf. I prefer that black dial with the contrast of the bezel with the white gold. Also, IMO, the Smurf is too much blue against the WG. The YG flat blue would be a tougher choice for me.

Both are beautiful and you can’t go wrong with either.

The salesman does have a valid point in that the GMT will add a bit of diversity to your collection. However, given that you’ve always drooled over the Sub, that’s where your heart should be pointing you.

Like I said, no real wrong answer but you don’t want any regrets when dropping that sort of money on a luxury item that you don’t ‘need’. If it was between a BLNR and Sub LVc, it wouldn’t matter because if you made the wrong choice you could flip without loss. You won’t be so lucky with these two so think very carefully.

Good luck.

I love both but in the sub lineup, the sunburst dial of the yg version or the tt version can’t be beat.

That sunburst dial convinced me to go tt when I never liked tt.

Love the blro

If it was my choice I'd get the GMT but to me it sounds like you want the Smurf so get the Smurf!

If the smurf is what you want, go for the Smurf, always go with your heart if it's a keeper watch. I personally like the looks of the BLRO over the Smurf, but only by a margin.

I go back and forth between which of these two I prefer - and i find myself flipping back and forth between them when it comes to an answer. At the moment, I’d say BLRO...but love the LB also

I would get the BLRO and switch to LVc. For you get the Smurf and switch to SS GMTc.

Just tried on the BLRO yesterday, but was disappointed the plasticy look of the bezel. It does not look as good as the Black and Blue GMT II. Because of that, I might suggest the Sub instead. It makes more of a statement, but the prominent blue is a bit harder to wear.

Go with the Blue Sub since this is what you want. You can always trade your SS sub for a GMT for variety.

Another vote for the smurf both are really nice watches but you just can't beat the blue Sub.

I would go for the BLRO.

Only watch I would sell/trade my BLNR for.

Well...if you ask us, we're just going to tell you what we like, and what good does that do you?

I would rather have the BLRO. But, I do plan on adding a smurf someday, if things go as planned. It's an amazing reference for sure.

But...in the end, you must get what you want. Good luck.

I've been thinking of a reply for 24hrs. Yesterday I was going to say BLRO 51% being I tried one on at the AD but I've never seen the Smurf at 3 ADs or in the wild. Ok enough from me, 50/50 no help but you can't go wrong.

Can I just say you don't get to 40,000 posts by waiting 24 hours to reply, 24 seconds is the maximum.
