First Vintage Rolex - Oyster Precision ref. 6424
Hello,
I just received my first vintage Rolex - an Oyster Precision reference 6424 from 1965 or 1966. My other Rolex is an Explorer (2016 version) which I purchased new. So far I am really enjoying this watch and the 36mm size is very comfortable for my 8" wrist. The watch has factory replacement hands, which doesn't necessarily bother me, but is there a way to find out if the replacement hands are correct to what was originally on the watch? I assume if the work was done by RSC they would replace with matching hands... but who knows. Other than that I just wanted to share and get some opinions if everything looks correct. I do not have a photo of the movement right now but it's a manual wind. Thanks! |

It should probably have the so-called "Dauphine" hands.

I have the same exact watch!!! My watchmaker told me mine was made in 1959, my birth year. Mine has the dauphine hands.

That’s correct as my 50s 6426 has dauphine hand and blue second hand. You can see the picture with 16030 next to it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Looks great. I really like the 6424 and I think those hands are ok for mid 1960s.

I think that year was 1210 movement, but I'm not sure enough to swear that under oath.

I just received my first vintage Rolex. The seller claims it's a 1964 6424 with a 1220 movement but original Rolex records show it should have 1210 movement.

Hi all,
I am new to this and I have a question. I am looking to buy a 6424 and it comes with a baton hands. Does it mean that the hands are replacement hands? It didn't come with dauphine hands. Would Rolex back then would pair arrow markers with baton hands? I saw on the internet that some of the dials on 6424 are with baton markers and baton hands etc. Thanks. |
