Icon5 Which camp are you in? Food is fuel or Food is an event?

I’ve always been in the fuel camp. I mean, I’ll eat fancy food but won’t cook it. I like simple comfort dishes and on the go stuff

Top shelf booze is a different story.

What about you?

Mainly fuel, but I like a fancy cooking session from time to time

I’m not sure.

Is this a event or is it fuel?

I fall into the fuel camp. I like food but if I could take a pill three times a day and get everting I need, I doubt I would eat.

Fuel for the most part. I will enjoy a fine meal every once in awhile but day to day, meals are planned with macronutrients in mind.

On a working day, no booze and food for fuel, non working day, food for pleasure, with a good wine accompaniment.

We are foodies. My wife LOVES to cook and I LOVE yo eat, so it’s a match made in heaven.

That said, we eat very healthy, balanced diets with attention to portion control. I think to a certain extent it is fuel, but you can enjoy really tasty food if you take the time to prepare it with good ingredients

I look forward to every meal. Not out of hunger or to “get ‘er done”, but to enjoy the flavors and share a moment with those around me.

Event. I spend a fair amount on food. I cook often. Comfort and higher end.

Mmmmm?

There’s a Rolex in the pic and requires a fork. That’s event food.

Fuel if I have to cook it. Otherwise, an event!

But, more importantly, we have proper family dinners each night, sitting at the dining table, no electronic gadgets. It’s a chance to have wonderful family discussions.

You nailed it, the most important meal of the day.

For me I eat real food and its both fuel and a taste event. I rarely snack, and very rarely eat junk food.

When you release yourself from being hooked on carbs its very easy to skip junk meals and concentrate on tasty real food meals. BUT still the most important and nourishing meal is the one with loved ones.

as do we. we are in the minority who actually had a formal dining room on our must have list when home shopping and we actually use it.

Im always shocked at how many people have them and dont use it. Lots of people eat on the couch too in front of the TV.

We've gone to Hawaii perhaps 30-40 times and done tons of stuff but the strongest memories are always the morning walks together on the beach as the sun comes up. The power of ritual.

I think kids and parents will remember a lot of memories later in life but perhaps one of the ones that stick out the most will be the ritual of daily dinners together where they talk. Family rituals are very grounding and memorable.

Yes, our dining room is used daily. Definitely no eating in front of the TV.

Interesting. Food was an event or entertainment for me. When I saw a dietitian I was told think of food as fuel. Fuel to run your body. Lean protein etc. I don’t follow it always, but I did drop many pounds using food as fuel.

My thoughts exactly
Healthy fuel at home, but will enjoy a healthy meal out as well.
Alcohol....none in the past 4 years

Dinner for us is also never in front of the TV and def no phones, and no excuse now you have Sky Plus and can record anything for later. Snacks can be in front of the TV etc. I can't eat carbs often so 5 days a week I just eat protein, and increasingly white not red, and veg so it's mainly fuel but 2 days a week I have the good stuff and really look forward to it.
