Omega Speedmaster 3594.50 "Replica"

During my trip to Tokyo, Japan a fortnight back, I managed to find and purchase a short term grail - the 3594.50 Speedmaster nicknamed "Replica". After chatting with speedy friends and doing some read-up, it seems as though this particular model has issues with corroding hands. In person, I did not detect any, although some seemed to be visible from some angles. I put that down to potential scratches on the hesalite.

Last night, I took a loupe, and armed with light from an iPhone, sat down to take some pictures.

Its quite obvious now that there is some corrosion on the hands, although nowhere near as bad as some of the examples I've seen online and shared on forums before. Verdict? Wear it until it needs a service, then decide if a set of replacement hands are necessary

Cool watch! Yeah, I have seen some with hands that were downright disgraceful. I think yours looks dynamite. Nice find.

Nice! Why are they called "Replica"?

I don’t know either, as it doesn’t share all that much with the watch it’s supposed to replicate -> shape of hands (but not surface curvature of hands), long indices on dial, no professional on dial and flat ‘O’ in ‘Omega’ is all I see in first glance. No, the bezel is also a far cry...

Now the 60th Anniversary Speedmaster on the other hand...

I believe that was the name which Omega used for this watch;Omega Speedmaster 1957 Replica 3594.50.00 - meant as a replica of the original CK2915 but in more modern case size (which works for me).

Thank you for the kind words, gents. It has taken up role as my daily driver, and I am enjoying it!
