Bought My Dream Car

Good morning guys!

Well, I did it. I finally bought my (realistic) dream car!

It's a 2006 BMW M5. A newer model would have been nice as the interior on the E60 was updated in 2008, but this car only has 21,000 original miles which is unheard of for these cars. If not properly cared for, these cars can be a nightmare so when I saw this basically new example, I knew that I had to have it.

I had to fly to the other side of the country to buy it and it took over a month to deliver it, but I finally have it and the wait was well worth it.

This car, along with the E9x M3 is the last of its kind. With the big push for higher MPGs and lower emissions, car companies are now forced to use tiny engines with forced induction. Even BMW M cars are following this trend. The new M cars are fast as hell, but nothing beats the feeling and SOUND of a naturally aspirated V10 screaming at 8000+ rpm.

This car gets truly awful MPG (Happy Earth Day, btw lol), but it's totally worth it.

Have a great Sunday, guys.

Wes

Nice example, is it manual? I logged over 25k miles in that exact combo, Silverstone has a very nice depth to it.

Keep it clean and find a FAIR mechanic that motor is temperamental.

The best of the bangel butt, get a proper exhaust with an X pipe and really enjoy that marvelous motor!

Since it was an eastern US car, is there any issues with passing California smog emissions? Very clean car and sharp BTW. Enjoy!

Nice Wes!!!! I had an E39 in the bright blue. Loved it. The 400hp V8 with some Dinan goodies was a blast to drive with the manual.

Congratulations on the minty E60!
Are you going to make it a garage queen or a daily? It’s awfully rare to find one with such low mileage.

Wow, congrats!!!! I really liked those and the V10 sounds awesome. Naturally aspirated is what I'm all about. This one looks well kept to, Wes. Please post some more pictures of the interior!!! I'll also have to ask if it's a manual transmission.

Awesome the S85 is a beast, I had an 06 M6, all settings on high in M mode, and would just about snap your neck, true beast of a car, would likely still have it if I had the 5 variant.

Enjoy, one of the very few in the US...

Thanks, guys! It is an SMG transmission. Manual wasn't an option in 2006.

SMG definitely isn't as fast as DCT, but it's a solid transmission and it's geared very well.

Nope, no issues. I got the car smogged and registered yesterday. It iss 50 state smog legal (I know some cars are only 49 state legal). Actually, the thought of not passing emissions crossed my mind after I bought the car lol. I'm glad it all worked out.

Thanks! The E39 M5 is an absolute classic. They're getting harder to find and when you do find a nice one, they cost a lot of money.

I ordered a Dinan exhaust for my M5, but the tips were all jacked up! I sent it back and hopefully, a replacement can be sent this week.

Too funny, Wes... I was following your story in the shadows and had a feeling it was going to be an (classic) M-car. My first thought was e30 M3, but you'd have to keep that in a garage, then I'm thinking 'maybe' an e39 M5, but then, nah... an e60 M5 would truly be the one to own. There is nothing like that NA V10, and frankly, it's the best Motorsport engine ever designed and produced, if not the best NA engine ever made in the world. The sheer power out of that engine, is truly frightening. I went on a death ride many years back when the e60 M5 was released and I swear I thought I was going to crap my pants. Never was so scared with the sound and raw power of that car. You made an amazing decision and bought something so rare to find. I cannot even express how excited I am for you!! Enjoy that very special ride. PS, have you ever seen Clarkson's review on the e60 M5 on Top Gear when it was released? Best video review EVER!!

Edit: PS the SMG is the only correct transmission for that car. The manual was rubbish... and the only reason why BMW released a few was folks who couldn't let go!
