Looking to buy my first Rolex!
Great to have found this resource with it's vast amounts of information and passionate watch collectors!
I have learned to appreciate find craftsmanship first through Ham Radio, and collecting the classics from both American companies (Drake and my current obsession Collins equipment). Also, through collecting firearms both current and from the past. Fascinating, rewarding and something I can do at home, now that my traveling days are over, as I am now sequestered at home taking care of my wife with special needs. SO, taking a 'peek behind the curtain ' of the Rolex brand, it seems a wonderful brand with a rich history to learn and enjoy... my kind of collectible.. I will probably make my first Rolex a NEW ONE. I watch with interest the television shows like American Pickers and Antiques Roadshow ... and seeing the things people 'stepped up' and purchased new at prices which, at the time, seemed low but they weren't when adjusted for (runaway!) inflation. SOMEBODY has to buy these things for them to exist, and not knowing enough yet to buy used, I will stick to new from a local authorized dealer. I am drawn toward the GMT II model, with my Ham Radio hobby dictating to always dealing with both GMT time and local time. Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself, I live in Oregon and only 2 AD's here (boy, was the Sticky explaining the abbreviations a godsend!) so will be looking for a GMT II in BLNR (am I convincing anybody that I know what I'm talking about?) Maybe not, but I' ve leared a ton already because of this forum! I'll be devouring the information here, great to have found this treasure trove of information and afficianado's! From NW Oregon, best regards! Kevin K7ZS |

Welcome to TRF.
Actually there are 5 Rolex ADs in Oregon. Packouz and two Ben Bridge in Portland area, Jackson in Salem and Skeies in Eugene. It's always best to personally visit the AD to build your relationship. The GMT is very popular and you will have to wait before any AD will have one to sell you. |

Welcome to TRF, Kevin. I've been a GMT-Master fan/owner for decades, finding them very useful in logging ham contacts and doing flight planning.

Welcome to the forums! Dave is correct (as usual), best to visit the AD, chat, and hopefully something comes out of it! Patience is the key word in this current market.

Thanks for the warm welcome, and the tip of other AD's here in Oregon. The Ben Bridge has a store close to me, so will visit that store tomorrow. Their online inquiry form yielded a very prompt and informative return email: BE PREPARED TO WAIT for a GMT was the not so subtle message. But, there are many models that are attractive to me ... Explorer II with it's 24 hour hand etc.
Thanks, I am going to enjoy this journey! '73' in HamSpeak! Kevin |
