Very sad for The Queen. She’s an elderly lady, and she’s still going through a lot. Now without her rock. God save The Queen.

A lifetime of service to the UK and Commonwealth, a prickly and irascible man, but one of a kind, unique and selfless. I doubt we'll see his kind again.

Glad to see an outpouring of love for the man.

Remember doing the Duke of Edinburgh award when I was a kid - a great scheme.

RIP

Quite a contrast with Ms. Markle, I'll just leave it right there.

Were the Prince younger I'm sure the PC Gestapo would have been all over him.

The Bishop of London had an interesting observation, had the Queen married a typical English aristocrat we would have all been bored, Prince Philip was never boring.

Back in 2010 I saw him and Queen Elizabeth in person (from a distance) when they came to Toronto for the Queen's Plate race at Woodbine Race Track in the West end.

Sad to hear of his passing. May he rest in peace.

Some perks, sure, but you'd need those to stay sane.
An upper-class man of his times, he thought he had a right to an opinion and wasn't reticent in sharing it. You could like it or lump it. Good on you Phil - wish we could say the same.
He must have had a hell of a life and appeared to find a balance between duty and personal interests. His health appeared to be good into his early 90s which in itself is a great blessing. RIP.
Very tough for him as he was a pure alpha male and yet had to be just the husband, he and his Uncle even tried to change the Windsor surname to his of Mountbatten, and the Queen who was in thrall to the dashing Philip was agreeable but Churchill and the Govt said that would not be acceptable. So Philip took it on the chin as the only man in the Kingdom not to pass his name to his kids, and so was the boss at home but publicly he served his wife for 70 odd years.

Lord Mountbatten certainly pushed that idea.

Dickie never missed a trick. But it's nice that his daughter, Pamela Hicks, is one of the closest to the Queen and is comforting her now.

Always loved his sense of humour.
My Dad, who in the early 70's was an official at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, and had chosen to wear a trendy, very colourful floral, kipper tie.
Was asked by Prince Philip; "have you been sick, down your shirt?"
My Dad wore a similar tie for years after, just so he could tell the story.

I'd read somewhere that the surname for the Queen and Duke's children was actually, Mountbatten-Windsor.

I guess you can't believe everything you read.

Rest in Peace, Your Royal Highness.

That surname is used by some of the lesser Royals with no titles, and actually Windsor is not used by that many senior Royals, Charles and William were the Wales's and Andrew is a York, but the House is certainly of Windsor. Royal protocol is all very complicated.

The service today was very small due to the government’s pandemic restrictions. That couldn’t be helped I suppose. However, I hope the Royal Family can find a way for a public “celebration of a life” for the Prince.

Decades of service to the UK rates it.
