If you get as far as jury selection just say.....If the cops charged him, he's gotta be guilty.

That should scare the defense off.

I always just reschedule for a holiday week when I know the courthouse will not be in session.

This is the only right answer, I'm sure the judge will be able to relate.

Been selected 3 times, never got called in to do it. I’d just be honest and hope for the best. I was mildly disappointed myself. I thought it would be a fun experience. Although I did forget to call in after the 3rd day last time I was selected as it was some zoom court due to covid.

As a lawyer, I was always stricken from the roles pro forma by the court clerk when actively practicing.

However, an extremely high percentage of the jurors I have had in my trials later said that the experience was very positive and eye-opening.

Nearly every panel would have at least one person who refused to participate and came up with horribly selfish arguments for not doing so. I, and most everyone else in the room, was always saddened by such acts. The judges were disgusted and made their opinions known.

Remember, this is one of our duties as citizens and, while we never hope to be a person whose fate or freedom relies on a juror, they serve a vital role.

Ironically, in the 4 years since retirement, I have yet to be called. In the preceding 10 years, it was twice a year.

My plan so far is to include a note along with the summons to the tune of this...

I received a jury summons, it was the patient of a cardiologist suing him for malpractice. It so happens both my dad and brother are cardiologists. When I stated this to the plaintiff's lawyer during the selection process he immediately dismissed me. It was so fast it was almost funny. He didn't even ask me to prove it.

From my last experience on jury duty, it's painfully clear that our "justice" system is anything but. That's gonna be my honest answer during the next jury selection.

Not so. I've been called twice since being retired and selected to the jury both times (one civil, one criminal). I actually found the experience very interesting and gratifying (felt I was at least doing something worthwhile).
I was also impressed with two things:
1) the people on the jury took their responsibilities VERY seriously.
2) unlike on TV, there was no shouting or raising voices; the judge and lawyers were always civil.
And, I learned how important the jury is. Once, in the middle of a trial, I was late due to car trouble. When I finally got to the court room, there was the entire court waiting for me!

The first time I was called I said I was self employed and my business was my only source of income. I was excused.

The second time I knew a friend of the AG. I was excused also.

I welcome the opportunity to serve every time I'm asked. I was jury forman a decade ago and proudly was able to convict a frat boy with a very punchable face for urinating in public.

I was called once, decades ago when I was still a trial attorney. I didn't get through the first round of questions (a/k/a/ "voir dire"), but would have loved to serve. Now that I'm retired, I'll probably never get called.

What I did: As soon as they sat me down I screamed the ugliest most offensive profanities I could think of at everyone. Then claimed Tourette Syndrome. They let me leave.

Start asking the judge questions about jury nullification. You will be out of there quick!

Over 70 years old AND disabled.
If they can pick me up and supply a wheelchair, I’m good to go.

That required a jury trial?! Urinating in public?

The defendant made that choice and to act as his own attorney. It was quite the spectacle.

Just had our daughter 5 months ago and said I needed to provide care for her when my wife went back to work (which was true). Told them to excuse me until May when she is a little bit older and easier to handle. It was approved.
