Oysterquartz 17014 - Opinions please?
Hi everyone,
I would very much appreciate your thoughts and price evaluation on this one. It has an R-series serial number which should be 1987/88. Thanks |

There is a small crack on the side of the glass, I barely noticed it, but replacement parts and prices are steep.

This model has something that is a real killer “USP” and that’s the Royal oak inspired bracelet...it’s also one of the absolute most important thing about the watch appearance. A brand new 17010 bracelet has really sharp bevels which makes the bracelet “glimmer” when you move your wrist. Unfortunately the watch you posted seems to be polished and re-brushed which makes the original charm disappear...will post pic of my mint 17010 bracelet tomorrow for comparison...

Nope rounded off. What would pay for this one, if you would buy it at all?

LK's point is exactly right. I think the biggest draw to the OysterQuartz is the "lug" angle where the bracelet meets the case and the sharpness of that joint is what will catch the eye. It what gives it that unique AP look within the Rolex line.
Personally I'm not super into the normal silver stick dial also, looks to generic. There are a lot of OysterQuartz's out there just check C24. When I eventually get one i'd look for a White Buckley dial

Ok, thank you. Could a professional revision of the case do any good here?

It could if you can get the watch at a reduced price to offset the costs involved to reshape, polish and brush the case and bracelet correctly.

If your budget is limited, you could get this one and have the chamfers restored. I've seen a re-detailed one with razor-sharp chamfers, and it looked awesome. Rolex will detail a case as part of a full service, which costs 700 - 800 USD, so build this into your calculations if you go that way. |

Thank you all around. The chamfers are definitely a tidbit I was not aware of.

The design language of the whole OQ-series has to my mind a timeless beauty that still carries into the present. A missing link between the Royal Oak and Nautilius that can take on both.
Gerald Genta famously stated that his biggest regret was that he did not get to work on the DateJust—what a piece that would have been to behold. I am, myself, not to keen on two tone watches but maybe I am just not brave enough to wear them. Either way there is a OQ for everyone. |

Hi again,
you guys seem to be better informed concerning the prices for the OQ revision via Rolex. I have those given by Oysterquartz.net and some others here and there in forums. Could you maybe give me an update to the list below. Thank you! Typical movement service: $300 Full movement service with water and/or circuit damage: $775 New dial: $180 New crown and crown tube: $70 New hands set: $55 New sapphire crystal: $85 New bracelet links: $35 each New bracelet clasp: $120 Refinish case and bracelet: Included Full 10-year service: $800 New Hands: $95 New Dial (black): $510 |

My full service about three years ago was around 700 USD. I got an extra link put in the bracelet, which was about 100 USD. Recent replacement of chipped crystal was around 200 USD IIRC.

Parts are always extra, so it'll be on top of the service cost.

I would look for a better one. That has seen enough polishing to soften it, and you're talking about spending money to service and refinish, which is fine, but you cant really add lost metal without a headache.
This is an unpolished 17000 to compare case. Im aware the bracelet is different but edge chamfering should be the same. photo sharing sites like tumblr Last edited by novocainekarma; 3 June 2020 at 10:43 PM.. Reason: added image |
