Pay more for a full set or...

Good day,

I'm looking at a particular watch from 2 different sellers.

One has the full set, box, booklet, card, etc.

The other has just the Rolex box with the watch and no card or booklet.

The price with the full set is around $700-$1000 more than the one without.

I'm debating on which I should move forward with, the thought of saving $700-$1000 is quite tempting.

Thoughts?

If you think you might want to sell it down the road then the premium is worth it. If not, then save your money.

You can always send it to Rolex for a service if you debate selling it and get a service card which usually costs about $700 or more depending on watch and condition.
Do you know when they were both last serviced? Have to equate that into the price as well.
I rather a complete set personally but have a few I bought watch only.

I do not know the service history, but both watches are from 2019.

Well it would be the watch and the double Rolex boxes. I could buy a booklet for $30-$50 and only be missing the warranty card.

One of the best from TRF, me personally I would pay the extra but I think most people here will say just the opposite.

I just keep thinking about how I would pay that extra $700-$1000k for the book and card that I would probably never look at again like with my other 2 Rolex's. And how that extra money could pay for a short summer trip, lol.

Without box & papers it’s always a pain to sell the watch. Especially to a private buyer. I would invest the 700-1000$ easily.

Buy the complete set. The used watch buying market is really crazy. It will be much harder to sell the watch without the complete set and the penalty will be steep probably more than the difference you could save now.

Very good perspective. Although, I dont think I would sell the watch, the thought of having the investment fully secured in case I need liquid is comforting.

I would recommend going with the watch that comes with the full set, which includes the box, booklet, card, etc.

While it may cost more initially, having the full set can often increase the value of the watch in the long run, especially if you ever decide to sell it in the future.

Depends on the watch, but in general I’d pay more for the full set. That Marion will only go up over time, so it will be worth it.

As an aside, I might be swayed if the naked watch is in better condition.

This. Even more, try to find a very good condition WITH box and papers.

I’ve been in every situation and in the end I always sold what was not in a very good condition with box and papers. I just couldn’t get it out of my brain.

Bought a top condition full set Hulk in 2020 right after discontinuation and still love it to this day.
Bought at the beginning of this year a RO 15500, some visible scuffs on the bracelet and bezel, with box but without papers, got the extract from the archives but somehow feel its not mine. I know I could get it polished by AP under service but the fact that it was not near perfection when I first got it… It haunts me.

Both are in good condition, just a matter if paying the $700-$1000 more to get the one that has the warranty card and booklet as opposed to just the Rolex boxes and watch.

The card is the big deal not the box. But again, if you never plan on selling just get the other one and save the money.

If equal condition I would pay the extra for a full set.

All things being equal, same watch same year, buy the one without papers: wear it for five years, service it and get a RSC card. Same thing as box and papers to most educated Rolex buyers. Maybe even better.

You can’t get the original card that’s issued when first purchased.

For Close to $1000, RSC will do a full service and issue a service card somehow similar to the initial one, mentioning the serial # and service code of the RSC that did the works.

but this service card will not be not identical to the first card, it doesnt say the date of original purchase or the Name of the AD and Buyer as a 2019 card should say.
