Better Daily Wear: 1680 / 16800 / 16750
Hello TRF,
I would like to get some actual owners' experience as to which of the 3 would be best for daily wear. I have dipped my toes in the vintage water before, but I've been "content" (bored) by the current Rolex offering, I would like to have a near-vintage model for daily wear. Which would you say is the best daily wear? 1680 / 16800 / 16750? I don't mean desk diving only - but the occassional dish washing and swimming. Of course the watch will be pressure tested and have parts replaced first. I believe 16800 would be best because it has the sapphire crystal and the fast beat (potentially more robust movement) with Rolex more inclined to service it. However, I would like to go older with a 1680 if I can get away with it on a daily basis. Please let me know what you think. |

Any of the three would make an excellent daily wear assuming properly serviced.
The 16800 would certainly be more resistant to scratches and wear on the crystal and given the climate for factory servicing the fast beat movement of the 16800 or 16750 is a safer bet. That said there's no worry in servicing the 15xx movements by private watchmakers with the proper equiment. I have all three and tend to wear the 1680 or 16750 more because I like the vintage look of acryllic, but again the advantage of sapphire can't be disreguarded. |

If you have the plexi watches serviced as you say, new gaskets/seals, service crystal, etc... It should be fine.
You -will- have to replace a plexi crystal at each service to maintain proper integrity. |

I am pretty clumsy and somewhat rough with my watches. I add "characters" to my watch all the time, banging against desks, door knobs, etc. Do you think all 3 watches stand up to minor shocks? Do the 3-series movements have better shock resistance?
