Speedy 3861

I am looking at getting the new Speedy 3861 and have seen the hesalite version but not the sapphire yet. I did like the vintage vibe of the hesalite but also like the display case back of the sapphire. For those of you who have picked one up, which did you chose and why?

I have held both and prefer the warm dial and all brushed bracelet of the hesalite. I do like the display back and the applied logo on the sapphire though. In fact, I may pick up the hesalite and see if I can put the sapphire’s display back on it.

I just posted in @SpikedLee's thread, so here's a bit of copy/paste:

I was debating obsessively which route I wanted to go, and arrived at sapphire (purely for robustness)... which the first batch of were all pre-sold and long gone. I asked the boutique to call me when they get either in. I got the call for the Hesalite two weeks later and though my intention was to merely check it out, it took me all of 2 seconds to decide for the Hesalite. I'm weak.

But, I happen to now think that was a happy occurrence, because I am now SO glad I decided to grab the Hesalite. The dial looks amazing through the plexi. Warm, rich and no milky ring. Plus I like the all brushed bracelet and actually prefer the printed logo vs the applied.

I did manage to scratch the Hesalite on DAY ONE, so there's that.

Thanks for the info. Well at least the scratch can be buffed out yes?

That would be interesting.

Yes, and apparently free of charge through the boutique (what they told me).

Bought the sapphire today. Both looked great, but the milky sapphire is gone. I could not care less about the back display and as others have mentioned Omega will service any watch regardless of who purchased it.

Maybe it's lighting dependent, and maybe it's even diminished, but from photos I have seen, the milk ring is definitely there to some degree. I think physics would dictate that it would. I don't think it would bother me too much, but I have come to really enjoy the Hesalite. A disclaimer: I have not seen the 3861 sapphire in person yet. Only the 1863.

I picked one up today with the sapphire. No more milky look on the glass.

The milky ring on the sapphire may not be as prominent on the new model, but it’s definitely still there. Here are both side by side.

I’d go hesalite. I much prefer the brushed bracelet and warmth of the crystal

Display case back is nice, but unless it’s a 321 movement my opinion is that the speedmaster should be true to its roots: hesalite, solid case back with whatever bracelet you like

IMHO, if part of a collection, hesalite for sure. As an only watch, I get the appeal of the sapphire (including the transparent back).

I've added the 3861 hesalite to my (too long) list of wants.

Thank you for the replies everyone. I am leaning toward the Hesalite since I hope to acquire the 321 at some point as well. I do have multiple watches, mostly Rolex, Tudor and Omega along with an AP and a couple others.

Go for the hesalite. It's just a nicer look. Scratches can easily be removed with Polywatch.

Just picked up about an hour ago but I am really liking it. Saw the sapphire as well but liked this better. The dial seems more crisp with the hesalite vs sapphire even though it is the same dial. No issues with comfort so far on the bracelet although the clasp feel a bit dainty.

Congrats! Both versions of the 3861 are awesome. I personally went for the sapphire version and love the open caseback.

I like both but would prefer plexi. Whenever a watch manufacturer offers a plexi option, that’s the way to go. I picked plexi for Panerai too, when offered.

And yes it’s super easy to take out scratches, you can even use toothpaste in a pinch. Don’t even worry about scratches

Is that the 3861 bracelet on both? I know the sapphire is mixed polish inner links and brushed, while the hesalite is all brushed.... But they look different and different width

Congrats.
Personally I went with sapphire, I'm too lazy to polish the crystal.
