Darn Tough Socks

Just a plug for Darn Tough socks.

If only the rest of my clothes came with a life time warranty. I simply haven’t had to buy socks for a few years now and as long as they remain in business I never will. The only expense I pay is to pay shipping costs but generally that’s not much and I wait until I have three pairs to send in at a time.

The best pair I’ve found are their T4033 Tactical socks which are the thickest Merino Wool socks they sell. But since it’s merino wool you can wear them in the summer as well as the winter without issue. I just don’t wear them with shorts but have other Darn Tough socks for that.

They are $31 a pair now but considering how nice they are and the fact they are guaranteed for life it’s a no brainer for me. I actually found their crew socks to last me longer as these thicker socks although they are durable are a bit more susceptible to holes. From time to time I’ll even poke a hole in the calf with a sharp finger nail. I’ve learned to prevent that from happening as much. Although since I can return them for any reason it’s not an unforgivable mistake.

Not sure how nice Smart Wool or something else might be, but once I compare that two year warranty to Darn Toughs warranty I simply have no reason to even give anything else a try.

Well Dan, I’m glad we have your socks issue sorted.

Although tactical ones seem a bit extreme while wearing sandals.

The NHL is considering mandating slice proof socks/underwear for its players so they stop getting sliced up by skate blades.

Something to consider.

Durable as hell but that, for me, comes at the expense of the better fit and comfort of the Smartwools. Darn Toughs seem to be a bit shorter on my calf and the wool is much rougher. However, my few pair of Darn Toughs have lasted for 3-4 years whereas my Smartwools seem to start showing severe wear at around year 2.

Yeah, I don’t wear sandals so that’s not that huge concern for me, and since I’ve had a knee replacement skating isn’t something I’ll probably be taking part in either.

Yeah, I kind of wondered if there might be some advantages to Smart Wool. Thanks for that. It sounds as though for about the same price you might get a pair of a bit nicer feeling socks with one return that might last you about 4 years, where with Darn Tough I get a lifetime.

Darn Tough Socks

I've been wearing merino wool Danish Endurance mid weight socks for about a year now. I've also owned Darn Tough, dickies, and dan post. I think darn tough is the best but I can get 3 pairs of my danish endurance for 350 kronors and they haven't lost that lovin feeling in a year.

Let's see some vibergs

Here's my oddest pair that I love the most for the CF Stead suede upper and full gusseted tongue. Oiled shoulders lower.

Just messin’with ya.

It was I guess the juxtaposition of the banks are failing, the Ruskies knocked down our drone, and then your post about your socks choices, seemed kind of funny.

Just another day in Rolex land.

Ok, but do the Danish Endurance socks even come with a warranty? Personally I just found the lifetime warranty made replacement a much easier task.

I just got my second pair of Vibergs I’ll have to post a pic later. Not as nice but I should be getting my Nicks in the next week or so. It’s been a six month wait so far.

I get it. It’s just socks, but what the hell. I come here to discover products others find that works best for them.

For sure not. And only half the actual merino of darn tough.

No, you?

Slow today I guess, doubt they even do that.

Anyway, I just found sandals aren’t something I particularly care for.

$31 for a pair of socks? You have more money than me. And I’m richer than Chewy.

I just went to order some and they have none I’m interested in in my size. Buying 3 pair a size smaller and hoping they’ll fit. It’s kind of concerning that they have zero pairs of large socks in the style I wanted, is there supply chain issues?

As far as I am concerned when that investment means that's the very last time or as long as the company stays in business it's an investment well made. However that is on their most expensive end so there are socks you can buy for less than $20 a pair and it's not unusual to find sales on Socks Addict for Darn Tough socks from time to time.

So lets say you buy 5 pair socks at $20 a pair or 7 pairs if you like and that's the last socks you ever need to buy. Not a bad deal really. Me personally I just like the thicker ones and frankly even at $31 a pair for the last socks I ever need to buy I'm more than satisfied. Now if I only could do that with other types of clothes I would more than likely do that as well.

Thanks guys. I ordered three pair of over the calf heavyweight tactical in medium size. One foot is almost a size smaller than the other so maybe they’ll work.

Will test out these three pair and if I decide to buy more will go with one of y’alls recommendations.

My socks are made by Falke for $1,188. The hair is from a Llama-like camelid - and are the most expensive fabric in the world The animal is an endangered species, so they only make about 100 pairs a year and kill the animals after so you never run into anyone with the same ones.

Darn Tough…hands down awesome socks! Just ask and Hiker or Backpacker. Out by me you don’t even have to send them pack to Vermont for replacement. You just bring them to the local retailer for an on the spot exchange.

I wear both. DT, and SW to me depends on the style of sock. I use them all year round. My feet don’t sweat. Both good brand.

I’m guessing you’re fairly rough on your socks.

Love Smart Wool socks but I’ll give these a shot. Just finished a few days of snow skiing and the SW ski socks are great.

L. L. Bean used to have a lifetime warranty on clothing. Now it’s more like one year or “practical service life” warranty. What little I remember of the story was too many people buying a garment once and getting multiple warranty replacements over the course of several years. Sort of like how Sears stopped replacing Craftsman tape measures.

My first foray with Darn Tough Socks was so/so. One pair is gone, either shrunk to being uncomfortable or I put a hole in them. One pair is still somewhere. Forget which styles I bought.

I really liked the Wigwam Comfort Hiker, just hard to find locally. Smartwool isn’t bad as long as I get the XL size to compensate for shrinking. I’m wearing these with work boots, so the socks get washed a lot but dried on extra low heat.

Please let us know if you don't mind. With only one opinion so far it would be nice to hear from more people that have experience with both.

By the way warranty time now takes a little over a month to get replacements. 3 weeks to process socks once they arrive and then of course the time it takes to ship them there and then waiting on your replacements once they are ordered.

All in all not a big deal as far as I am concerned given I have a decent amount of these socks currently. Besides as I said I wait until I have at least three pairs before sending them back anyway.

A warranty for socks?
Waiting until three pairs need replacing before sending them back?
Seriously?

Welcome to TSF.

Well, you could send them in a pair at a time but I don’t find that way to be the most economical.

The seller doesn’t include return freight costs?

I’d look elsewhere.
