Service for Speedmaster

I offered to help service my brother's 1999 Speedmaster. Omega Boutique wants $750 to do it. I went to a local guy for an estimate, and he wanted $780?!

I thought it would be $300-400 tops. Any can recommend a good place for a simple CLA, no polishing needed.

Thanks!

I haven’t used them personally but Four Crowns in LA shows under $400 on their website for a Speedmaster. I’d call them to confirm and then ship it

I would be careful here. The pricing for Full Maintenance Service on Caliber 1861 has always been ~2X the cost of Full Maintenance Service on an uncomplicated movement, and I'm pretty sure service from Omega on uncomplicated movements is close to $500 (haven't checked their web site lately, but pricing used to be there).

Inquire with RGM and Nesbit's in Seattle. If you do decide to let Omega do it, then consider sending it to the Omega Service Center in Seattle, as their reputation for QC and turn-around is good (although the primary center in NJ has been performing very well, too).

I use about time repair in the UK. https://watchrepair.expert Sean Yates is a great watch maker and always updates and sends pics of the whole process which is cool to see. Manual chronograph service runs about $350 US. I’ve sent my Datejust and vintage chronograph to him with no issues. Nesbits in Seattle is also good, they serviced my SMP. Their service prices run a little more.

I’d be careful going down the route of an independent. I put my SMP in for service few years back & went for an independent based on some other forum recommendations. Watch came back & wasn’t right - kept on stopping on my wrist. Went back & they said couldn’t replicate the issue. Came back & same. Ended up going to local boutique & came clean about issue/ where done. They then sorted the issue

$750 from Omega is the ballpark.

chrono's, regardless of auto or windup, are always about 20% - 30% more to service the engine.
