If it makes you feel better I can offer a miserable story. My father bought 1,000 shares of Apple stock many years ago at $19 a share and sold at $24 when things weren't looking good at the time. Granted he made a return on it, but I'm sure you know the story of Apple's stock price, split history, and dividends. I'm literally not allowed to speak to him about it...ever.
