I wonder what you guys think of these two watches. If you had to pick a winner, which would you choose and why.

The GS is a limited edition model which looks stunning from the pictures I have seen. The AT Skyfall in the larger size, although not limited appears to be quite rare. I also love the styling and look of this watch.

I genuinely cannot pick a favourite 🤔

Grand Seiko SBGR083 all day long – Omega’s idea of limited edition, in the past, has been 7000 odd.
I suppose when you make the best part of 700K watches a year, then 7K is somewhat limited.
Seiko makes 15K or thereabouts, mechanical/Spring Drive watches per annum – and that includes the Prospex, Credor, and Galante ones too.
I’m also not interested in movie/actor tie-ins, but even if it was a regular AT, it’d still be a no-brainer.

Alright, I'll be the opposition.

My vote would go to: (drum roll please.....)

Omega Aqua Terra. Co-Axial Escapement. Clean and classic design.

Honestly, I do love Grand Seiko but wouldn't personally be able to pull the trigger on one. I know I know.... The fit, finish, and build quality is top notch. There's just too many other options at that price point that catch my eye.

Another reason I would go with the Omega is that it's easier to flip if you decide to sell. Just make sure that you pick it up at the right price so you don't get hurt getting out of it.

Have you had the opportunity to try both on>? Any preference once on the wrist?

They're both great. I have an AT and a GS, so of course I recommend getting one of each. But that's not practical, so... I'd say the GS is the more special piece, especially the one you're considering. Really beautiful.

While I appreciate the craftsmanship and acknowledge that the fit and finish on the Grand Seiko is superior I would still go for the Omega Aqua Terra.

Also to the OP: are there any other pieces of consideration?

What other pieces are currently in your collection?

Yep, have this one.

And this too. I love them both, but the GS just feels more "special".

My latest is an SBGJ 011 Hi-Beat GMT. Titanium with a white pinstripe-textured teak dial they released last Basel. Their finishing techniques on the Seiko titanium alloy give the polished case and bits on the bracelet the look of stainless steel. Pics when I get back home off the road and reunite with it.

There's no question in my mind that Grand Seiko is an exceptionally well made watch that deserves a ton of credit. However as I've stated before I personally would not buy one and the reason is because of its association with Seiko department store quality watches.

Please allow me to explain. I believe that A quality watch is one thing but when I wear a watch the brand means a lot to me as well. I think of the history behind the watch. I feel the name brings something big to the table think of a Maserati then compare it to say Hyundai although the brand has come a long long way even making presidential limousines fit for presidents. unfortunately the brand comes with a stigma and when I wear a watch the name and history of it makes me feel different wearing it.
