I must admit that after reading this thread, I got out my trusty magnifying glass with the high magnification bubble. With my old (62 years) eyes, I couldn't tell, there seemed to be but it was only when the light caught it in a certain way. I was left unsure, looking with my naked eye from close, it looks perfect. I did go and blow up a photo I had taken and took a screen shot. I will say the hour and minute hands are perfect. Those that are worried, I would say, buy the watch, it's fabulous, you won't see the imperfections.

The quality is well above my threshold of complaint.

My photo isn't the best, but it gives an idea.

If you can't see the issue with a naked eye then it's now an issue.
Hands are an expendable consumable item at any service interval of replacement is required.

The quality is well above my threshold of complaint.

My photo isn't the best, but it gives an idea.

For some reason Seiko seem to want to leave their watches open to criticism. The second hand on all their 'SEIKO' watches have a quality issue. The 3 recent high-end reissues have fantastic finishing on the hands and indices, yet the second hands are all like anything else Seiko makes. That and the lack of applied logo to match the original versions they are recreating is the icing on the cake.

I knew this before buying and it doesn't bother me, but it does prevent me from feeling like my watch truly matches a Grand Seiko...either way, the GS divers do nothing for me as I prefer the Seiko divers, and I love polished hands (to catch the light- especially in low-light), especially with bevelled edges and GS has neither, opting for plain brushed hands which makes no sense to me with their beautiful indices that are highly polished.

It is a weird practice that Seiko does..

They tout their zaratsu polishing of cases and that these watches are assembled alongside the Grand Seiko references...which can be inferred as having a higher attention to detail and execution.

All of this INVITES increased scrutiny from the collector as they are essentially "picking up what Seiko is putting down"....and expectations are higher because of it...

So, what does Seiko do? Install a second hand that is finished poorly compared to everything else....

Then they say that if it looks good from XX distance, it's good enough...

Well, that is contradictory to the marketing message of their premium products...and hence causes the the "friction" among enthusiasts.

Don't get in the boat if you can't go all the way....:

Seiko dropped the ball with this one.

I don’t like the design at all.

Price is way over the top in Oz dollars.

Timing precision is way off in the example cited.

All in all it could be a lemon.

I think the SLA033 is far from a lemon and my example is great. I enjoy the wear, look and I would never know the second hand did not have the finishing some want unless it was pointed out. I think a lot of the rub with the SLA033 has to do with price and the LE status. I get it and do not disagree. Bruce Williams on YouTube does a very good review and also gets into the price situation and addresses it very well. Ultimately the choice is with the consumer and I can not say to go for the standard turtle as it is a very cool watch. But for some, the SLA033 is the one.

The design? It’s a reissue, almost to a T

For the record, and in case people are mistaken, this is 'not' the SLA033 ;-)

It's great to see both together like that - T4S
I've got to give the original some nods - including the "boxed" crystal and applied logo

I got one of the last models available in Europe.
I love the design, the movement, the quality. I don’t mind the seconds hand, but I really miss the possibility of a bracelet. I believe it would have been a stunning piece with a bracelet. Really believe that with a bracelet it would have been one of the best looking stainless steel diver’s watch in the market.

Has anyone found a solution to adapt a nice bracelet with endlinks?
Is there anyone capable of doing custom end links?

I wear mine every day. Rolex has been collecting dust. Amazing how well they shaped the case to be a comfortable daily driver.

P.s. already on my second bezel and crystal from a nasty whiteout in the bike ;)
