SLGH003 vs SLGH005

Guys,

I have the opportunity to choose one of the two and can’t decide cos none of the, available for viewing in the boutique.

Slgh003
Blue dial so I’m not sure if it’s too novelty.
However it’s 60th anniversary limited edition.

Slgh005 white birch
Silver/white dial is more conventional
Not sure if it will be run of mill GS as it’s not a limited edition

Love to hear your views on Which should I go for and why?

Thanks.

I recommend you handle in person and try the watch on before you buy.

The bracelet has undergone significant changes and is much improved, however imho it is too big for the watch. 22mm wide vs the typical 20mm for a 40mm watch.

In person the blue is a bit bright for my taste.

I like GS for their craftsmanship so I would lean towards the 005 due to the detail of the dial. I am waiting to see their next few releases with the updates movement before pulling the trigger on my next piece from them.

Wondering if anyone has seen/compared the two side by side?

I was actually at the boutique on Thursday in NYC. I own the 003 and they had a 005 in the store. The 005 dial is more amazing in person, I would have pulled the trigger if I didn’t already own the 003. That being said, I would still have chosen the 003 over the 005 because it’s limited, and the deep blue dial is second to none.

I prefer the SBGH281 over the SLGH003. Still a Hi-Beat, but with red text instead of white plus I think the SBGH281’s bracelet looks better with blue dial.

So, I would take the SLGH005 (the brushed bracelet goes well with the “birch”) and add the SBGP015 (9F blue dial/ceramic bezel) for the 60th anniversary blue dial.

You need to see both in person to decide. Both dials cannot be judged by pictures due to how the light plays with them in my opinion.

I have the 003 and passed on the 005. I think the colour of the dial and bracelet on the 005 aren't enough of a contrast while the 003's blue is much more interesting and versatile in person.

Both are great though so go with your gut. I wouldn't get hung up on the LE aspect. It's GS, every other release is a LE.

The blue is bananas and the first ss with that lovely movt and will be in smaller numbers. So it’s the winner.

Birch appears only slightly less awesome due to the monotone nature

Agreed that GS has many LE. But maybe a 60th anniversary LE is extra special.

Prefer the Slgh005 over sbgh281 due to the new movement but agree that the red text is nicer.

This and the autumn linen dial are my two fav blue GS's. That said, that 005 is stunning so I would get that first. Actually, that's my exact plan.

I own the SLGH003 and will attest to the fact that the dial is very striking and changes colour based on the light source. The sunburst finish truly shines. I tried the SLGH005 at the NYC boutique a couple of weeks back and found it rather cold, despite the beautiful birch pattern on the dial. There isn't enough contrast on the dial IMO, and the whole watch has a monochromatic feel to it. One thing that I do like on the SLGH005 vs SLGH003: one less line on the dial, with the word "Automatic" removed. A small but welcome change. I wouldn't pay much attention to which is limited and which isn't. All things being equal (which it almost is in this case), buy the one that speaks to you more!

I have been trying to decide whether to get a watch with the 9sA5 movement, but am a little big concerned since it is new. One slgh003 owner said in a youtube video that his watch ran 8 sec + out of box brand new. Can any 003 or 005 owners comment on the accuracy of your 9Sa5 watch? thx.

I love my SLGH003 and would recommend it over the SLGH005. I care less about the fact that it's an LE, but more that it'll always be the first steel GS with the next-gen 9SA5. I think collectors will look back fondly on the '003 for that reason.

I'd also consider that the '003s maintain their value well compared to other GS, and it wouldn't surprise me to see them trading at a premium once the last handful out there are sold. If you get the '003 and decide to swap to the '005 or other 9SA5-equipped GS down the road, you'd be able do do that pretty seamlessly.

Can't go wrong either way, but I'd choose the 003.
