Perpetual Calendar - AP (26574) vs. Vacheron Overseas

I am considering buying a Perpetual Calendar as my next watch. The boutique I buy AP from have me on the list and say we'll get one just not sure when. Vacheron Overseas perpetual calendar is available more easily and looks good too.

Whilst I am drawn to AP PC, I haven't been able to actually see one for real.

Could those of you who've had both, or tried both share your experience and preference?

Thanks

I saw a RG VC once, felt cheap in my hand. Ironically from being too thin.

I preferred the AP, but haven’t been able to get one.

I’d never use cheap to describe the vc
It’s thin for sure but far from cheap
Both are excellent it’s a matter of taste

I don’t mean to offend, but I do sincerely have that impression when I was shown the piece. I also noticed parts like the bezel and other things didn’t seem to be perfectly flush against the other parts and the gaps were uneven on one side. So maybe it was just that specific piece as I’ve never had that feeling with other overseas

Haven’t owned either but have seen/handled both. AP for sure hands down wins for me. It’s just AP is more my style and the 3D printed moon is wicked.

Thanks. Would you mind sharing side by side real life pictures of these two?

I don't have a side by side, I do have lots of pics of each watch. Is there something your trying to figure out before making your purchase decision? I feel that you can't go wrong by buying either if your paying msrp. If you brought one and didn't like it, you will get your money back if not more.

Wears more easily and in different guise. Bracelet, rubber, leather.
The blue dial is absolutely gorgeous. It’s a more comfortable watch.

But if you want the ultimate bling icon, the AP has more flex

AP is my favorite brand, but I really like the overseas PCs. So much so I might lean VC

Handled both. I'm a massive AP fan, but the VC wins for me (if you ignore the hype). The dial on the VC is incredible and the ultra thin makes it extra special.

Perpetual Calendar - AP (26574) vs. Vacheron Overseas

I wouldn't buy anything this expensive without seeing in person.

I prefer the AP information display with weeks on the perimeter and easier to read months... but one is ultra thin and I know the VC will wear comfortable and flat on the wrist.

AP's ultra thin is not on your radar?

Going purely by pictures for VC, I'd strongly consider the WG skeleton PC.

If history serves me correct AP in the early 50s brought out the first perpetual calendar wristwatch. I’d stick with AP on this one although the Vacheron is very nice. Buy what’s speaks to you. Must handle each in the flesh to know. Cheers.

Looks like Patek in 1925. Beautiful watch.

Let alone the Perpetual Calendar... Patek made the Perpetual Calendar Chronograph in 1943, the ref. 1518.

Both beautiful watches, but I'm partial to the AP QP.

I prefer the AP bracelet (couldn't care about the leather & rubber strap, that's just me), I prefer the Tapisserie over lacquered, and (this is a big one) the moon on the AP.

This is one where I probably wouldn't go for the skeleton. The dial on the blue is so nice in the sun!

Yeah, but not with leap year indicator, if I recall right.

For me the AP all day, the week indicator I would use very much and also the moonphase with aventurine. I considered the ultrathin QP, but it lacks the week indicator.

you're the first person i've ever heard that likes the week function
I've always thought, if they had the room to put another hand, why didn't they put a seconds hand, which certainly would be more useful

I think there's something romantic but also sobering about a watch hand that rotates only once per year.

It reminds me of how fast children grow up and how many good years I may still have with my parents for example.

Apparently many countries in Europe actually use week numbers regularly.

I'm partial to the QP as well. Mostly for design reasons. In Ti it's incredible.

Really? I use it every week;-) When I make week schedules for planning staff, when I plan promotions in my stores, when I make holiday schedules.

On a perpetual calendar, a second hand isn't needed I think. It tells years!
