Tried on daytona for the first time today

SS white dial steel bezel. Felt tiny and I don't have big wrists. Does the ceramic wear the same?

yes, it does...that was my same reaction when I first tried the Daytona as well...I also found it difficult to read, which is really too bad.

What other watches do you have? What watches do you feel are "right" for you?

Yet people are paying almost twice retail for one.

I also found the steel steel Daytona extremely underwhelming on the wrist. The ceramic I have not tried on.

I lusted over a daytona for so long... so so long... until i tried one and saw how small it wears. I have a small wrist. So glad i didnt buy one...
Nevertheless, i am equally happy for the people who enjoy the watch of all genders and sizes. I might one day get one for my wife, and i hope she likes it.

Well this is why I found it interesting, since I find I like the 39/40mm Rolexes best. I've got some maxi case subs + a batman but also Explorer 39, SD4K and a couple of 5 digit subs - and I had and loved the OP39 white, felt perfect. Also have a SD 43 which is a good change of pace from my fave size.

I have heard rumors that Paul Newman wife was a stingy one and that's why she bought him the Daytona in the first place. At the time, it was considered a dog of a watch that nobody liked. Glad to see OP didn't fall for the hype of a screw down pusher chronograph that is barely readable.

I actually like the daytona _because_ of its size, I'm starting to think that the 6digit maxi cases are just too bulky for me.

I just got a ceramic and I think it wears beautifully. Here is a video of it on my 7.25" wrist...

I think it wears small since it's really comfortable too. Thin, curvy and light. And the dial is busy so it reads small. I love the way it looks in photos and have tried on a number of them and am always a bit underwhelmed in person. You have this teeny stopwatch that is almost impossible to read especially when obscured by the hands of the watch. The "normal" second hand doesn't move unless in timing mode which would drive me nuts. The dial is busy AF...

BUT... And this is a big but. The darn thing is so good looking. It somehow manages to make up for all the shortcomings. This applies to more than a few things in life. But given the cost of entry I couldn't do it. Heck, you can have a used, solid gold or platinum DD for less than Daytona C money and it has useful complications.

The size, being classically proportioned and extremely well balanced was what I liked the most. Its very thin, compared to other chronos as well. Ultimately, it was the complete lack of legibility when actually using the watch is why I ended up unloading both.

Anyone have insight on how the Daytona C (116500) wears compared to a 16610LV?

Dials are the same size. They use the same crystals. Outside diameter of the Daytona bezel is 38.50mm and outside of the 16610 is 40mm. They wear similar to me. YMMV.

I tried a new black one on a few months back, spoken for of course. I get the attraction but it never hit any buttons for me.

Agreed but I'd put it closer to DD40, OP39 and Explorer 39 range. The case is very similar to those three.

The Daytona isn’t a large watch but it’s perfectly proportioned in my view. It reminds me of the 4 digit sub I have.

I own both and the Daytona wears smaller and lighter. It does have a better bracelet than the 16610lv. However, I think the size and overall weight of the sub wears better. I’ve never used the chronograph function. It’s too time consuming to unscrew the buttons.

I often hear this about steel Daytonas. I've read that the gold versions have slightly larger lugs, but I'm curious to know if that's enough to offset the smaller appearance that the Daytona is often criticized for.

Honestly I'm quite familiar with the Explorer 39 and OP 39 - the particular daytona i tried on appeared to me as much smaller visually on my wrist. I've got to believe a DJ 41 feels/looks bigger than it too.

Maybe it’s cus there is less watch face on it. And in addition dial is busy as mentioned.

Was a preowned at Tourneau bryant park - steel bezel as mentioned - didn't ask price was just trying on out of curiosity for how it feels (was more interested in trying a yachtmaster and milgauss)

I don't think it's small at 40mm? Perhaps you have big/fat wrists? A Nautilus 5712 is not a small watch and the 116500 is heavier and bigger on the wrist imo.

Yes forgot to mention my 14 inch wrists - you cracked the case
