Thanks all for your feedback. It's done now and a few days of contemplation and I'm over it. Yes would have rather had the old dial but I'm not going to sell it. Lesson learnt for sure but I still think it's a great model and one that will remain in the stable

to be honest, I don't think changing the dial on this old watch would affect the value at all, either negatively or positively.

It looks good to me. And as others have said, unless it is a particularly rare or desirable model, IMHO this is no big deal.
