Determining Rolex Age

Hi everyone.

I just purchased a beautiful Submariner 5513, no papers, which the AD states that it is from 1970. There are no issues with it and I love it.

On the internet I have found 17 sites with date of manufacture databases. 10 state that the watch is from 1968, 1 states that the watch is from 1969 and 6 states that it is from 1970. For me the older the better and I would love to say that the watch was from the 1960's vs the 1970's.

Any suggestions as to further research or similar experiences ?

thanks

No internet chart can give a exact date when any Rolex was made only a indication between X&Y years when the case was stamped. But with watches like the 5513 before around 1980 the system used do date more accurate. This was on the inner of case back, first two roman digits the year quarter, second Arabic year of manufacture.

A watch in this era would have a date stamp inside the caseback.

Unscrew the back and read the stamp; that is likely what the Dealer did to get their 1970 date.
