Omega discounts STOPPING?

Hey all,

I had a chat with my AD this morning - she informs me that Omega/buying team are more and more encouraging AD's to not discount popular models such as the Speedy, SMP and Rail Master. I kind of laughed and said is that an early April fools joke? She was serious citing that last year they offered no discount on a speedy or the 007 models... Again, I took light of the situation and asked did anyone buy any speedys or 007 models?!... She said as these watches are becoming more popular they are stopping discounts.

Got onto the phone to my Tudor AD who is an Omega AD and he took stated that the days of getting 20% off an Omega is slowly dying and his rationale was that other Swiss brands such as Tudor, Rolex, VC don't offer that level of discount and so felt that Omega commanded the same "respect" I couldn't help but be shocked by this.

Fast forward a few hours I called Goldsmith's where I purchased my speedy from last year at 20% off RRP and asked if I could buy the hesalite version at the same discount and I was told.... Absolutely not.

I'm a bit taken back by this... Has anyone heard similar? Thoughts on this?

The haute horologie boutiques have been going this route for some time. I would say around 2017 late is when it became a bit of a challenge to get the "usual" accommodation (if there ever was such a thing), now its impossible depending on what you want. I live in LA on west coast so more demand in my area than in others which I am sure contributes to this. As more brands go direct to consumer, why allow a middleman to eat away at your margin and even sell at discount when you can sell direct at 100% full price (or at least attempt to).

Im not surprised that the mid-tier brands are following the same. With Rolex doing what it is doing, it was only a matter of time...

I don't know about no discounts. However I frequent OF and several buyers have noted that they were not able to get more than 13% on Seamasters. Discounting is still happening but is slowly receding for sure.

Especially on the newer, more popular watches there are minimum to no discounts. I would not be surprised if 3861 doesn't get discounted for a while.

I just noted in my other thread that even gray pricing isn't as attractive anymore. Discount on 1861 is around 10% and on Seamaster is around 15%. 20% or more is very scarce and is available for less desirable models.

You will be hard pressed to get a good discount on white or blue SMP Diver.

Surprised it took this long frankly compared to what is going on in the other major brands. But, I still think Omega will overproduce like they always have

I’m still getting 20% off omega at my AD but I know that others aren’t and I believe my spending history is the only reason I’m still in this discount bracket.

If that’s true I think my 1861 model just became a lot more valuable.

If AD's aren't going to give discounts then I'd rather just buy from an OB.

15% off sapphire speedy about two months ago.
Won’t expect anything on a Seamaster though; my AD can’t keep them in stock.

Interesting stuff. AD's have to pay the bills. I guess we'll see.

I doubt that's the case anymore. Amongst WIS yes maybe but Seamaster is the flag bearer and I think the highest volume SKU at the moment.

I see way more activity on Seamaster than Speedmaster.

Recently C24 confirmed it here,

Five most popular watches on Chrono24

5. BLNR
4. Speedmaster
3. Seamaster
2. Submariner

Spoke to a few ADs today re discontinued speedmasters. Mostly all sold out apart from a few sapphire sandwiches and their best offer was 0%. The gift is to be able to buy it lol.

I just got 12% at a local AD for a black/rubber SMP with no buying history. They were very nice but I could tell that was for sure all I was going to get. While I'm glad I got my discount I understand why they may be heading this direction.

Was offered 15% off the Planet Ocean GMT and the Seamaster 43.5 ceramic/titanium without even asking. I could see Omega trying to make a move. The market conditions favor that.

The brand seems to have the wind at its back with the new Master Chronometer standard and lack of availability from Rolex.

Picked up a hesalite speedy for a bit over 5% off couple weeks ago but AD said their stock was low and unsure if or when they would get more since the model was slated to be discontinued. Was offering a bit deeper discount on a sapphire model but not the 20% it seems others spoke of a year ago.

Omega still makes far, far too many watches for this to stick.

Perhaps the Speedy can hold for a bit, but ultimately Omega will crank these out subsequently reducing demand and forcing discounts to move dead Omegas out the door.

Discounting has a lot to do with your relationship with an AD. I have not asked after a discount on Omega in a while but may, just to see the response.

I recently paid full price for my Seamaster 300M and thought it was a great deal considering the quality of the watch. I've had most of the modern Rolex watches including precious metal versions in my collection and consider the 300M a bargain at full retail. The watch is beautiful, the gorgeous box it came in is striking, and the packaging of the paperwork is remarkable. The dealer did throw in a nice pair of earrings for my wife but I would have happily completed the transaction without them. Because of its quality, I wear my Seamaster 24/7 and have sold all my Rolex watches.

Bought a white dial SMP 300 over the phone from a dealer I had no history with in November - they offered 15% off without much asking on my part.

The new world of luxury. Brands are trying to prop up value by discouraging discounts and promoting exclusivity. Agree with Fleetlord, Omega makes too many watches but we will see. Will work on short run, too many things have to go right to last long term.

When I contacted my local AD last month about purchasing a speedy hesalite and a Rolex OP41 and asked for the 25% discount I usually receive they told me they no longer give discounts. So I ended up paying full price for the hesalite speedy and the Rolex OP41. I figured I paid a little too much for the Speedy but the Rolex OP41 is probably worth a bit more than I paid for it so I figured it balanced out and I did OK. I always had no trouble getting a 25% discount on any watch including Rolex but no more.

Depends on the model. The Seamaster and Speedmaster are Omega's 2 big sellers so as long as demand meets or exceeds supply discounts will be harder to get. I think other models like the various Tressor, DeVille, and Constellations that don't sell as well will probably still be discounted.
