Thoughts on 5270g-001
Curious to hear thoughts on the 5270g-001. I realize non sports watches, especially those with complications, are out of favor now, but this first series has always intrigued me. Would love to hear some thoughts from the forum, particularly in comparison to its 5970 predecessor and later 5270 variants.

This is my favorite of the 5270s to be honest. The dial is really a chameleon and very cool. No tachy though but I don’t care too much. Hard to compre to 5970; different animals.

A month or two ago I asked the forum a similar question...
I was looking for a 5270 variant and ultimately picked and purchased the 5270G-001. I had tried on the 5270P Salmon dial and instantly ruled that out (just didn't personally like the salmon dial). For me, I also love the 5270G-019 but already own 2 blue dial Pateks (5170P being the last one) so thats the only reason I didn't go with the blue 19. That said, I love the simplicity of the 5270G-001 and prefer it without the tachymeter as it makes it by far the cleanest dial and easiest to read (this can be an issue with the 19). The black gold hands and hour markers are really sensational and I truly believe this is the best opaline dial white gold version. I also think there is something special with the 5270G-001 being the FIRST inhouse PCC variant... the 5970s are also good, but fundamentally, the 5270 is a far superior watch (the only complaints you'll find when comparing are mainly value retention and 41mm V 40mm of the 5970). If you buy pre-owned, I don't really see a value retention issue/complaint. To sum up, I don't think you'll be disappointed with any 5270... especially if you purchase it at a good price (a superior watch that costs significantly less than a 5970)! |

As I said, most of the complaints around the 5270 are in regards to it being 41mm (not an issue in my view) and it "losing value" (if I ignore the "chin" debate) but no one seems to complain about the movement. |

I like the blue dial best, which PP make beautifully on this. For a white dial I like it more with RG.

Love the 5270g first series
first in house PCC of Patek.
To be honest, I had a chance to choose between the 5970g and 5270g. I chose 5270g. The black oxidized markers did it for me and the clean dial. Value wise, 5970g is better. We should wait 10-20yrs to see the real value of of 5270 line up. End of the day this is a hobby I love and I chose what sang to me more. 5270. As long as you buy at the right price for 5270, I think it'll be fine. I have a 5270g and 5070g. And personal experience the in house movement is really superior then the old lemania movement. Push the start of the chronograph, stop, reset and oh boy, in house technically better. Smooth as silk. |

For movement to fit the case you need a 3970! Lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I also quite like the blackened hands and hour markers, and the graining on the dial. Also, first in house Patek pcc is special. Going to check it out again today. If anyone has insight into market prices, I’d love to hear (either in this thread or message me).

Patek PCC is the flagship watch within the Patek Philippe line up.
Just because the BMW 3 series is the more popular BMW car, it doesn't make it their flagship car. Likewise just because the Nautilus 5711/1A is the "most popular" Patek at the moment, it doesn't make it the flagship watch. Patek has and always will be known for their complicated watches and not their 3-hand sports watches. As Thierry Stern says, the Nautilus and Aquanaut are nice watches to get people new to the brand interested in the brand. However, ultimately Patek collectors will appreciate the fine workmanship that goes into the complications that they produce. The 5270 being their first totally in-house PCC is truly a mechanical masterpiece that most watch enthusiasts (including myself who owns the 5170G-001) will not fully understand (how it is made or how it all works). Don't buy the 5270 if you want a "hot" piece that you can flip for a profit. Only buy it if you appreciate the fine workmanship of Patek and want to own a piece that will be part of their historical legacy. |

Movement wise the 5270 is far superior to the 5970. There are many changes but a big one is how the gears mesh for the chronograph. On the Lemania base movement the gears are cut at an angle to allow smooth coupling. Downside of this is these gears wear out very very fast. This is why the older movement paperwork all stated not to leave the chrono running for long periods to avoid premature wear. The new movement chronograph can run forever without premature wear. Plus, I like a hacking feature which is on the inhouse movement. I wish PP had put the dynomometric winding crown found on the 5170 on the 5270. I think that is really neat.

I believe dealer wholesale on the watch is about 90 to 95K. Prices on used dealer sales go up from 120K. I would look at the auctions or seek out an original owner who has one for sale to find one somewhere in the middle.
