Up/Down is a fantastic watch in any metal/color combination but I just love Lange's big date... also it looks fantastic on your wrist... if budget can go up I will try the Saxonia moonphase...

Looking at the Lange Up Down blue dial, I think I may be able to stretch my budget a little bit more for it. It's down to either the Up Down LE or the VC Boutique edition. Hoewever I think the VC's 38mm would be more proportionate to my relatively small 6.3" wrist.

At this moment, I think I've ruled out the Outsize date Lange.
If you go with the LE Up/Down you are paying more just for a color. The VC Boutique edition gives you a lot more bang for your buck compared to the non-LE model.

Funny how tastes differ. I am not a fan of dress watches in general except for chronos, which I like for their looks rather than functionality, and for dials, like the Journe CB.

In this case I find the up/down kind of blah, although I'm sure the back is mesmerizing. I much prefer the big date Lange. But of all the watches I like the guilloche dial VC the best because all day you will be looking at the dial, not the movement.

Remember pick the watch that will give you the most pleasure looking at it throughout the day. With these choices, you won't make a mistake no matter what you chose.

You can’t for wrong with either brand. I have both brands and they are fantastic watches each in there own way. FWIW in the photos the 1815 looks great on your wrist, I would dare say far better than the others

Not to complicated things more but don't rule the outsize date
Little bias here as an owner of the same outsize date that you tried on (black dial, rose gold)...
But I think the outsize date is feature is a key characteristic of Lange so I'd lean towards a model that offered that. I owned the basic 1815 in WG with the small seconds and while I liked it (and don't get me wrong, I like the up/down as well), the outsize date gives a Lange that character that sets it apart.

Can't go wrong with your choices...and in general, I'd definitely steer towards a Lange vs. a VC.

I love both brands. However, I leaned a little towards a Lange so I purchased my favorite dial, Cade metal and blue hands.

IMO they’re all too large for your wrist. As the owner of a 6” wrist myself it took me a while to accept that although I loved most modern watches, I couldn’t wear them.

My advice would be to try a 38.5mm Lange 1. That’s what I did in for situation and it fits perfectly on my wrist, and shows up the others for the giants they are.

Edit: sorry, didn’t read to the end of the thread and see you had already made your choice. Congratulations and enjoy it in good health.

The Lange for the movement, but the VC for that insane guillochè dial. My eyes choose the VC.

Edit- Oops, I see I was too late. (Fooled by old thread!) But beautiful choice! Congrats!

thanks guys. It took me awhile to decide which one to pick but happy with the decision at the end. Was thinking of a different coloured strap, perhaps green or navy blue.

I don't think AD give a lot of gifts unless it's from the boutique? Well in my experience anyway.

A closer look at the dial without the wrapper on. It's almost hypnotic to stare at.

Congratulations! If buying from the boutique, I think you made the right choice, as I love that dial. I opted for the standard dial version of yours but only because I got a great price on it and I find it a bit more versatile. Also, I think the standard brown strap on it is perfect for the watch and VC has the best straps I've seen.

VC and ALS are both are among my favorite brands. Generally, I prefer VC from the front and Lange from the back. Even though it's their signature thing, I personally don't love the big date. An ALS Up-Down would be a great companion to that VC down the road. Enjoy!

That might be the nicest guilloche dial I've ever seen by far.

Thanks again, I love a bit of uniqueness on the dial particularly after finding out the dial was hand turned and also 18k. Personally I prefer Lange's back but as others have mentioned and got me thinking, I would be staring at the dial most of the time. I've just been told by the VC boutique they would be discontinuing this particular boutique edition. I guess it's a good time to buy.
