Are there any actual 'for wear' collectors left?

Let me clarify; since the title of a post can only be so long. I can appreciate collections that have 3 or 300 showpiece, LNIB watches, and I both appreciate and am indebted to vintage collectors - indebted for the knowledge and heritage they preserve. This post is not a slight towards either of those schools of thought.

My real question is how many people still feel they are a collector/hobbyist/etc. that buys the models they want, but FOR USE - actually going out and wearing them on more than a 'blue moon' type occasion?

Now before the folks who wear a Rollie or Tudor daily get upset, I do mean this question more towards folks with multiple options - are there still folks who wear a Sub on Monday and then a DJ on Tuesday and just rotate through them, as many used to? I still do, I admit.

This doesn't come from a place of negativity, simply curiosity - a work colleague of mine asked me one day why I was wearing a YM when he usually sees me wearing my 36 OP - I said I just felt like changing it up that day. He asked if I was worried about the more expensive one; wouldn't I rather keep at least one 'minty'? The acquaintance in question wears a Zenith Daytona he's quite proud of every day, so it wasn't the money I don't think, more just genuine surprise I would want to use all the piece I own rather than use one and keeping the rest mint.

I think it's fair to say many if not most of us have multiple watches - I'm just curious, who actually wears more than one with any regularity? Even if it's say a Sub then a Grand Seiko Autumn edition every other day, example of that nature.

Or, by the same measure, do you prefer to keep most 'in the box' for safekeeping and simply to have in the collection?

Watches are meant to be worn and banged around, that's why I smash my Rolex into a steel beam or door knob any chance I get.

In seriousness, yes I wear them all and rotate based on mood, but I am mindful about dinging them on things, mostly because I am OCD and prefer the aesthetic of a non dinged/scratched watch, not to preserve value.

I have 8 watches (all different brands and price points)
7 of them are "tool watches" and are worn once a week
The 8th is worn very little as its a dress watch and i work with my hands, so it'll get WAY too BTS if it comes to work with me
Every morning i pick a different watch depending on my mood
If a watch doesn't get worn, it goes
Hoarders, Safe Queens and people hyper aware of the risk of a simple scratch really ruin this hobby for me

Thanks guys - after seeing some posts on various forums lately (albeit all centered around the Rolex marque, primarily) I thought maybe I'd lost my mind!

Sometimes a timepiece makes it a whole week, or just a day... or a few hours until being changed.

Then we have strap / bracelet changes....

Yeah, that's me. It's kinda the 'problem' when you work @ home

Oh, then there's the timepiece when watching F1 in Monaco, or a Bond movie... or when enjoying retro 70s movies. Buuut be ready to have TRF members get all upity judgy about your choices too.

Have fun, enjoy!

I wear one of my Rolex every day. In fact, there have been few days since 2008 when one model or another hasn’t been on my wrist.

A guy I work with told me once he has some at home, but feels they’re too expensive to wear. Same guy drives a near 6 figure BMW everyday.

To each their own, but imho watches are for wearing....

I wear the shit out of my watches. My signature pic is me wearing my DSSD while diving with great white sharks.

I know everyone treats their Rolexes differently but I definitely wear all my watches; having 6 of them, I rotate a Sub and a DJ during work days, then switch on the GMTs during the evening, and I pick what I feel like for the weekend.

I wear mine everyday but only have the one. More to come and I plan to wear then all. My good friend has a hell of a collection, more than enough for one for each day of the month and he switches it up. I’ve seen him wear almost every one, so there are true collectors out there still!

I have multiple brands and watches. I wear all my watches on a random rotation every day. I sometimes change my watches two and three times a day. Price, color, size and style are not part of any equation. I bought every last one of them to wear, why else would you want them??

I have a number of some great Rolex choices to wear, and I wear mine. I don't own to invest in them, but I am glad they retain some value and mean a lot to me.

One for every day the week and that leaves my 5711 in the box. Things may soon change once I pickup my VC!

wear / rotate through my watches daily. I think the majority of the members of the community do the same….

Hell - there are even the crazy (imo) people who wear their watches to sleep!

Always --
I start my week off with a Dive watch, work my way through SS Chrono, GMT and finish with a PM watch on Fridays.

Dive in on Monday and Shine on Friday...

We are a sick bunch

Wear them all. I went through a phase with keeping some in the safe unworn, but what's the point I said to myself one day. Now I enjoy them all.

All of my watches are for wear and have gone through a gauntlet of adventures with me. They’ve acquired dings and scratches along the way. I don’t mind them.

Does that mean people who don’t do this are not watch enthusiasts? Nope.

Other people have their own way of enjoying this hobby. I am cool with that

Enjoy the watch game however you want to folks!
