Visit to the AD - DSSD and Sub C Pics
Hello, everyone!
After much learning and observing, finally my first post here on TRF! Like many before me, I have been trying to decide between these two great pieces of work from Rolex. This motivated a trip to our AD here in Brasilia, where I could try both on. I think I have pretty much made up my mind, and wanted to share pictures of both watches, separately and together, to give those still in doubt a better idea of them "in the steel". When I was looking for threads to help me make up my mind, these were the kinds of pictures which helped me the most, so I'm trying to retribute them. For reference, I have 6.7" (17cm) wrists. Disclaimer: Iphone Pics. Hope you enjoy them! |

I LOVE the DSSD but the SubC looks better on your wrists.
You luckily can pull of either, myself I am stuck with the SubC for best fit/look

I agree Sub C is a better size. I tried on a DSSD last month and thought it was HUGE, my wrist is 7.5".

Thanks for the replies, guys!
Even though there have been many posts with pictures of these watches, in my researches I rarely found ones accompanied by the poster's wrist size, so I thought I would leave my .02 to those who need the basis for comparison. This forum is fantastic, I am glad to have found it and to soon join the family. All the best, Kauê |

Thanks for sharing and welcome! I think you can wear both very well. Which one did you go with?

I agree with the comments that because of my wrist size the sub looks a little better balanced, but I just cannot pull away from the DSSD. It is the steel version of awsomeness, IMHO. So I thought I would just shoot for the deepsea as a first rolex acquisition and perhaps add a TT sub one day! Wow, just to think of that and a smile comes to my face. I hope I can pull it off eventually! Cheers, Kauê |

Well, I LOVE the SubC also, but the DSSD looks far better on your wrist IMHO.
Either way, you can't go wrong though! Personal preference rules the day of course. BEST REGARDS |

My impression was that, albeit the dssd is undeniably a TALL piece, it didn't look bad at all. I also was a little underwhelmed by the weight of the sub (even though I tried it on first). Anyways, both are beautiful, but this time around I have to go with only one, and I think I have made up my mind about the beast!
Next step is to go shopping for ADs with nice prices! |

Welcome to TRF!
I'd say stick to the Sub-C, with those size wrists unless you are built like a pro athlete or actually can claim to do saturation diving, the Sub-C is a much cleaner everyday choice. Agreed, the DSSD always looks awesome on the wrist when the shot is taken from above, but give it a bit of angle and you'll see a different story. |

Thanks for the observation, Patrick. I tried to post one picture with an angle, to put the height of the case in perspective. This is by no means a regular sized piece as far as thickness goes, but I really enjoyed putting it on and wearing it around at the AD. Unlike some, I like the weight, and the cyclopless face is just My main concern was that it would look, well, goofy. But I really think it does not! |

That's tough; both are beautiful watches to own. I would probably lean towards the SubC.
Good Luck! |

Here is another option: Get the older model 16610LV with the green bezel. Then swap out the bezel to a black one. Then remove the cyclops (takes all but 30 secs) et voila! You have be best of all worlds:
- Great fitting Submariner - Classic case - No cyclops (the older Subs don't have coating under the cyclops so there is no trace of the cyclops) - Maxi hands and hour plots My old 11610 has the cyclops removed, I'm very happy with the results. |

god i love the new sub....100% my next Rolex.
P.S. Sub C looks small compared to DS but i would pick the sub over any Rolex ( except a Platinum DD II ) |

I think the DSSD looks spot on for you. The subC in comparison seems underwhelming. Great to see them together. I'd say forget the subC. Get the DSSD and then pick up a 16610 LV and a spare black insert later. I much prefer the older sub and the older LV is perfect because of the maxi dial as Patrick mentioned above. But it's not a replacement for the DSSD. Nothing is.
As for pulling it off.... It's all about your perception. And you certainly feel you can and with the DSSD that feeling is always accurate as soon as you strap it on.

The Sub-C looks too small on you. I would go for the DSSD.

Nice pictures. Both look very good on your wrists, but I think the SubC edges it, as it is slightly more balanced in relation to your wrists.

DSSD is fine looking down... profiled it is too big/too tall. With that said who cares... :D

Agree - when I tried the Deep Sea, couldn't get past the fact that it was just so tall. I have about the same wrist size as you and went for a Sub-C LV. However, it is very personal and I can understand the attraction to the bulk of the Deepsea. Me thinks you've made your mind up already

You are sure starting out on the right foot! Great pics, terrific post and I even like your avatar!
I'm hoping you buy a DSSD! I'd be proud to have you in "the Club!" Best of luck on whatever you decide!

Since your wrist can take the Deepsea, that's the watch I would go for because it looks and feels great.
Also, because the Deepsea is not that popular, ADs would be willing to offer a discount (around 10-15%) which makes the Deepsea one of the best value for money watches that anyone could buy. Welcome to TRF! |
