AD removed (Milgauss) links?

This is my first. I've been chasing the Milgauss since it was reintroduced. I have the black face (not GV). But, I do have a question for those who have dealt with an AD before: 1) Is it unusual for the watch to come with a link already removed? I thought it was just the watch calling to me when it fit perfectly out of the display case, but when I arrived home, I found an extra link hidden in the box. It got me wondering if this watch wasn't previously fitted, sold and returned.

2) I set out for the GV, but the AD didn't have one. After some thought, I went with the black. I keep looking at the GV online and wonder if that wasn't what I really wanted. However, I'm in the medical field, and I want to wear this watch every day for many years. I don't need my patients looking at it and thinking about their bill, if you get my drift. Is the GV really too "blingly" like I've seen in the reviews, or should I just search around until I can see one in person for my self?

Thanks, I really value the opinion of fellow enthusiasts.

Welcome to TRF!!!

1) Agree that the link must have been removed / perhaps to size...unless you somehow got an extra link?

2) Bling is in the eye of the beholder. What do YOU think??? The PCLs may catch the eye / light a bit more than brushed steel, but I think the watch is not too flashy.

my milgauss gv only had 12 links when i bought i believe, that is 1 less then my other rolexes. no idea why, but the ad told me if my wrist were bigger they would give me a free link. no idea what is going on.

all my other rolexes have 1 link removed for good fit, milgauss gv fit perfect and had no extra links.

Don't know if one is obviously more bling than the other. If anything, the non-GV might be a bit more restrained and elegant, and the GV might be a bit more "fun" and different.

You could also consider getting the PCLs brushed if they are too flashy for you...

Seems like you wanted the GV and are still thinking about the GV, so, you owe it to yourself to at least go find one and see it in real life.

In my book, it's all about having no regrets.....

On occasion, we remove a link so a person can try it on properly, but its usually only if we're pretty certain they're going to buy, or know them particularly well. As for the GV, I don't think it's particularly more ostentatious than the regular Milgauss, but it might attract a shade more attention not for the crystal, but for having the two different coloured markers on the dial. Realistically, people won't know it's a Rolex anyway

Chris is spot on.
The GV is one of the few Rolex watches that doesn't look like a Rolex.

No cyclops, no bezel markers and a dial diameter that is bigger than most of the other Rolex sport watches. If you ever wanted a Rolex that didn't look like a Rolex then this is the one.

Both 40mm diameter??

Welcome Tony!

Sounds like the watch was previously sized for someone to try on. I wouldn't worry about it. It's yours and it's new.
The GV is no more blingy IMO than the black Milgauss you already own.
Both are great and can be worn everyday in any situation.
Sounds like you're thinking about a switch?

I count 12, unless they count the easylink under the clasp. Are my eyes deceiving me, I do need a new prescription.....

I don't see 13 links. Does the quick extension count as a link?

You can almost see the 6th link just inside the clasp.

Thanks for the great replies. I have 12 on the watch, if you count the easy link, and one in the box. The watch also had some slight scuffs on the bezel. My AD was very nice about removing them, but it does further my theory that that's may be a returned watch. I'm driving to another AD this afternoon to see the GV in person, and will let you know what I think. O, quick question: is it acceptable to talk price with an AD, our should I expect to pay what they're asking?

With out a doubt, talk price with the AD. Try to get as much of a discount as possible. You should do OK on a Milgauss.

Just returned from the AD, and I'm now a black dial Explorer II (16570)! It took a little to figure out why the Milgauss didn't click for me. I was looking for a primary watch, something I'm going to wear 24 hours a day for at least the next 5 years. The problem is, for me at least, the Milgauss was too handsome. It would have been the "sunday driver" of watches for me. I'm not at that point with my collection yet. Something to work towards.

Also, along the lines of my original post; The 2nd AD that I went to looked at the Milgauss and listened to my story. He was fairly confident that the watch had been sold and returned. However, it was clear that it was worn before being returned (and more than just trying it on). There were no plastic stickers on it when I purchased it. I will be returning the Milgauss tomorrow. The 2nd AD told me it was their policy that once the stickers are removed, the watch fitted, and it walks out on someone's wrist, that watch is no longer "new" and is not returnable for full credit. However, the 1st AD I was at literally put the Milgauss on my wrist and told me to try it for 10 days and return it if I didn't like. I'm wondering if it wasn't just a sales tactic.

Congrats on the black dial explorer II....You will be hooked for life...my first was an Explorer II White dial....since then 30-40 more have crossed my wrists! Good luck on the return...if you charged it and they wont accept the refund then contest the charges but hopefully you wont have to do that!
