Watchville

Sad news that Watchville app is being retired. I found it a great source of information in one place.

The hodinkee app now looks exactly the same as watchville...sooooo did they buy them? Did they own them all along? No idea.

I really really liked watchville so I hope Hodinkee doesn't ruin it by overly trying to monetize, etc.

It’s all downhill from here. Hodinkee also bought Crown & Caliber in 2021, and I notice it has substantially increased articles that just try to sell you pre-owned watches. I stopped looking at the App now. That’s probably why Jack Foster left Hodinkee.

I really hate Hodinkee and would love to see them fail.

I only see HODINKEE “articles” on the HODINKEE app.. if that’s how it’s going to be, shame on them

The app was pretty good for seeing new releases from less mainstream brands. Now I don't know what to look at now.

Not on Google Play, maybe it's an Apple-only thing.

Installed - thanks . Looks like it has a lot of the same feeds as watchville.

Darn...I really liked Watchville for updates. I noticed that the Hodinkee links have not been working in the app for some time; the cynic in me figured it could have been Hodinkee seeing how many people with the app would just go to the site manually for content.

Perhaps they should be called "Hoodwinkie" rather than Hodinkee. Since Jack Forster left, I feel the writing at Hodinkee has gone downhill, not to mention that c. 90% of the content (non scientific, I'm riffing here) seems to be focused on pushing their shop items. I'll never begrudge anyone for trying to make a buck, I would just like to see quality content from them, like they used to.

Ok...now I'm starting to sound like an old fan of.a band that later "sold out" haha.

I hope something fills the void...I'm on android though

Cool, looks like an RSS feed aggregator.

If the App wasn’t achieving its goal of click thru, and BTW it was free right?

(You know “free” in web lingo is you pay with eyeballs and purchases)

Then it makes sense to merge the separate Apps.

Watchville is no more

Darn...another site that I relied on is dead.

Guess I'll have to go back to visiting all the watch sites separately for news...

It aggregated a lot of watch stories from most of the top sites on a daily basis.

Looks like it would've been a useful site, I wonder why it failed?

Just discovered another alternative that is web based. Watch Charts does some aggregation.
