Wow, looks so good! I was tempted to open one of my Caymus 40th tonight to go with some steaks, but went with a Groth cab instead. Enjoy the wine, because I know it’s good! Salud!

Attended several events with Maximilian Riedel. Fun story, he said at Riedel "we do not know why, the longer the stem, people are STILL holding the wine glass by the bowl"

The reason to put your hand as far away from the bowl as possible is to reduce the presence of your hand smell while tasting. As he said, your hand will smell like soap, Cologne/perfume, food (if you are cooking) and those aromas will be present if you have your hand close to the bowl...and therefore, your nose. I asked why they do their 'O' line (stemless). The answer: marketing. People wanted a simple, transportable wine glass; but suggested that, if given the option, always ask for a stemmed glass. Stemless are simple, convenient and fun; but tastings are always done in stemmed glasses.
