(1) AD insists on only selling the watch you want if bundled with others - nope.
(2) AD won’t sell to you unless you have a purchase history with that AD - totally acceptable for the AD to take that position, but there are 100 other AD’s who’ll happily sell to me even if I’ve never stepped foot in their store.
(3) AD insists on buyer paying higher than MSRP - also totally fine for an AD to take that position if it wants (the “S” of course stands for “suggested”) - but I can’t stop laughing at the thought of an AD taking that position (and that would be the case even before the collapse of the world economy).

In retrospect if you wear a Rolex the average person is going to think you hosed yourself. These watches just cost a lot of money regardless if you payed msrp or under

Me. Always 10% discount and no tax. That was prior to 2016. The ceramic Daytona SS started the the grey Mark up craze.

No Rolex boutiques in my state... but I'm about to move to south Florida in a few months. Not really many Rolex out there that I'd consider paying over MSRP for. Hoping to somehow get on the list for a no date Submariner whenever they update it soon. I'm a bit concerned they may not even put me on the waitlist for it as I'll be completely new without a previous purchase history. I'm fine with waiting a year or more though... but would I still have a chance?

You can call me the 'under retail buyer' when it comes to watches.

Nope. 116622, 116710LN, and 16570 at or below retail, but I may deviate from this trend for a Hulk...

Same here. As much as I love watches, and Rolex especially, I'm not paying over retail - mostly because of principal.

Yep, I negotiate every chance I get and believe you can get just about anything at or below retail. How much below depends on multiple factors (brand, AD, you negotiation ability, etc.).

I got my blue DJ41 from a grey with a discount. This was early on before the watch got popular and started going for more than retail. I got my Explorer from an AD at MSRP when they were going for more on the grey market. . I know these are not the most sought after watches so it’s not a big deal to get them at retail or less.

There are not any current watches that I like enough to consider paying over retail. However, if the rumor of a new sub with slimmer lugs is true, I may have to reconsider my position.

114060 at MSRP in October of 2018.

Looking to pick up a 126334, white dial with jubilee and fluted bezel by the end of this year. Just haven't been able to get to a brick and mortar AD due to the shutdown.

The only Rolex I purchased over retail was the older Batman at around 2k over retail. I since sold it after I purchased the BLRO at retail. I did good.

Never have, and never will. And I must have bought over 20 Rolex watches, Patek, AP, etc. Most of the time with a discount.

Never paid a premium for a new watch. Used to enjoy discounts but recent purchases have been at list. Would only consider a premium if I felt I wanted the watch so bad I wasn't prepared to wait on a list.

That said I'm not looking for anything at the moment and my thoughts on Rolex has changed with the games now being played.

I think a lot of people will echo the notion that some can't even get on a list to purchase a watch at MSRP.

They keep getting told that the waiting list are full and only buying a two tone datejust can fix that.

In essence when someone does that, they are already paying above MSRP because they buy something they didn't desire and will likely sell at a loss.

Some people here recommend building relationship with AD by passing by and/or calling more often. That is time and time = money. I am sure most of you very successful people understand that better than myself. So in essence you are paying more.

Paying MSRP is walking into Hugo Boss or Armani boutique, trying on a suit and walking out with it. Not visitng it 10 times, buying a datejust and then getting a LV at MSRP.

That's just my take on this whole notion. Enjoy whatever works for you.

I’m too cheap to pay over MSRP. Got the VAT knocked off my BLRO last month because of international shipping (of course had to add shipping cost) Total was about $8500. Had to pay sales tax on my Daytona over a decade ago.

I have bought 5 in the last two years from the same dealer. They are very ethical and professional. I have paid msrp plus taxes each time. No interest in buying second hand.

Sub bought back in 08. Waited a couple of months.

SS Daytona asked for one in Geneva airport. They pulled it out and I passed as I’d just bought a property at the time. Chickened out. Ended up buying one from David SW about 10 years ago & paid a little over RRP.

I’ve only bought at or below MSRP. 20 different watches, mostly Rolex and Patek.
