I've owned both and would choose the NF again between the two.
*For Me* the NF wore much better and more comfortable
Plus I like the yellow highlights to perk things up as all of my other watches (at the time) were pretty much black

"Based"? No, I don't think so. Supposedly some of the gear placements are in the same location which allowed IWC to fit their existing complications onto the 80110. The base plates were similar looking for this reason.

IWC Ingenieur or Tudor North Flag?

Let me put it this way, no free sprung, no bridge, plain 7750 with some more high quality replacement parts in the winding mechanism. You can turn it like you want, the NF has a superior movement from this perspective.

IWC was always known to take known and good working movements and improve upon them. That is certainly a good direction but it is not an in-house design. Even when it would be an in-house design, the Tudor movement is better, in the sense how it addresses robustness and time keeping. It competes in a different class.

Really what is with the holes in the bezel of the IWC; what's the point?

I'd go with the Tudor. Quite a bit more comfortable on the wrist and that movement is pretty darn solid!

North Flag for sure!! The new Tudor movement is amazing. Other point is to own the first Tudor with in-house movement, near impossible to say no!!!
The pic is a 5612 (no power reserve complication) but is basically the same than the NF's 5621.
Nice!!!

These watches may be priced the same, but that's where the comparison ends. These watches are in different leagues.... IWC by a mile.

But, if you prefer the NF, go for it.

Which would you chose.....

Nice the IWC, although it looks a bit like a watch where the bezel came of...

I believe it's supposed to look like a port hole on a ship.

As to the watch itself, I've owned it twice and definitely regretted selling it the second time. It's a watch that grows on you. I currently have this:

North Flag for me!! Just picked one up last week, its an incredible watch. The IWC is nice, too. But NF takes the cake, for me. Love the power reserve and yellow highlights, super technical, modern, angular.

The Ingenieur bezel holes were originally to close the watch, screwed together with the backcase on the first version that had that bezel. Now they are cosmetic, as a reminder of what was.

Oh, IWC by a mile. Serious watch.

Honestly neither.

If forced I would take the IWC

I really like the north flag so I would go with it. reserve de march (sp?) indicator + in house 72 hour movement and I'm 100% in on the North Flag.

I would ask if this is a watch you plan on keeping forever and ever and ever and ever? If so the IWC is pretty cool looking but I would hate to have to move one down the road.

The North Flag is a hugely underrated watch. It's the only watch IMO that you must see and handle in person. Photos actually do the watch an injustice. If you can, go and see one in person... get it on your wrist, then decide.

The royal oak comparison hit me as well!
The funky style of Tudor appeals to me though.

IWC Ingenieur or Tudor North Flag?

I’m not a fan of that particular Tudor. I’d go IWC between these two.

Good luck!

Edit: just noticed this thread is from 2017!
