Thanks, Nick.

BTW, what is the latest state of your watch collection? We haven't been in touch for quite a while and an update (with some pics) would be wonderful!

Thanks - JJ

I plan to do a set of interior shots when we finally manage to move in and put our own touches to the house (its well over 200 years old and there's still quite a lot to do inside). As I've discussed with Shane many times, we have loaned it out to good friends, who have put up with - and helped out with - enormous building problems during the time we have been camping out in the West Country.

It'll be worth it though! (BTW, the beach and mooring jetty is at the bottom of the garden). I'll look out some other shots soon when I can get to the main archive computer - I've got a feeling that Shane already has (had?) some.
Hi Nick,

You certainly get around, only a second ago I was reading your email.

The house looks nice, what was it in it's previous life?

Great pics, Nick. A friend of mine had a house on the mainland (in Leicester) that was somewhat older I think but right on the road with the side entrance. Yours reminds me of the look of that house. I'm sure yours will look great when you are done with the renovations.

Thanks everyone

Thanks for the comments on the house: it's turning the corner from being a bit of a nightmare (and a bottomless pit!) to a labour of love. I still don't know when we'll get to live there properly though; work on the mainland really gets in the way but pays the bills

I think Adrian knows more about "putting up with where you work" than I do! (We work for the same Co.) But look at the quality birding that you get to do, Adrian.

The house was a merchant's house originally, but had been changed into a dentist's surgery when we acquired it. BTW JJ, we still have the other house (that you've seen in pics of Veronica and myself) over on the other side of the village, but that's also rented out (we can use an annexe when we're on the Island).

JJ: I don't really have a watch collection as such, but my daily wear is (another) SS Sub-date and I still have the ND Sub. I say "another" Sub-date, because I gave the original - and my Pepsi GMTII - to my sons when my eldest (Tom) graduated and took up his first graduate job. (The other son, Bill, is still a third year Engineering student, with another year to grad. At present he is helping to design an 82ft cruiser boat, sponsored by one of the world's most famous boat designers - a good placement with a job built in after graduation. Well done, my son! (Is this boat intended for his old man? )

I now miss the pepsi GMTII, ('spose I always knew I would) so that will be the next purchase when I get a bonus at the end of March.

Putting up with the management is harder.

Yeah right!

I was glad to get out of the more senior position I had with the previous joint venture that we were in. The main board was a nightmare and, as discussed before, the effort of trying to keep literally thousands of people employed in a difficult marketplace is not good for one's health.

I'm back on the "reasearchy" side now and much happier.

I suppose it doesn't matter what level you're at, there's always some pain in the neck somewhere above you

A few more Island pics

It will be no surprise that I don't have a monopoly on good looking Island houses (as if!). Here are a few more (apologies to those who may have seen these pics at some time at "the other place").

Godshill village (yes its a real village, not a showplace):-

Mottistone manor - there's quite a few manor houses, but this is a good one!

and we'll throw in a medieval castle too.... Carisbrooke Castle, occasional home of Queen Victoria and prison to Charles I

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the update. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you also have an LV Sub in your collection? Hope you get a new GMT-II soon. On this forum, you are allowed only the all black one, or you get banned by Ed!!

No LV yet

I'm still waiting for an LV at list! Thanks for reminding me. I did talk to my AD a while back who said that they've only had two or three come in - and I am about 2 away still.

I'm not really in any hurry. When it comes in, I'll grab it.

My previous GMTII has been all three SS variants: it started all black, then black / red and then pepsi. My son is keeping it at pepsi, but I have the other two bezels if he changes his mind (a London RSC benefit!).

Hi Nick. Great pix and your new island house looks impressive. Can't wait to see pix of the finished product. Great pic of the boat in tough seas, too. Were you on 'it' or were you snapping the pic?

Hi John

Thanks for the comments. I can't wait to see the house finished and us moved in either!

I think both could be some way off though... maybe not until this time next year because of work and commitments to the friends still helping and living in it.

I was driving the boat, while my son Tom took the pics. The boat's back in the yard at present for a major refit; new Steyr engines and a complete renovation of hull and superstructure (watch this space for pics in about April/early May !). We still have the Boston Whaler in St Ives as well, but it's a little cold for open boats at present, methinks

On the Island, I can leave home, reach the boat in a couple of minutes, then "flat taps" brings up the French coast (and all that good cheap wine) in just over 4 hours. All year round.

Sounds great Nick! BTW, I'm totally impressed you were out in the Ocean when the seas were that big. As a land-lubber (who has okay sea legs) any kind of sailing impresses me.

To D-Man

Sorry, I've been offline a lot lately. To answer your question, YES, I still love the Panerai. Perhaps too much?? I've almost completely stopped looking at other watches to buy. A first for me...

What about you? I really like the pics you posted of yours on a bracelet. Have you sold it yet?

Daren's in Hawaii for a while, so don't count on a response anytime soon, dude. But, speaking for Daren, he's still got the PAM88, and it did go to Hawaii with him.

Harrod's Watch.

This was a lovely watch. I believe it was made for Harrods. I wish I had kept it. Gevril has one like it.

Like the hands and dial. It looks good on the strap also.

Nice looking watch, Eric. I like it better on the strap than the bracelet.
