With all due respect, your friend has no idea what he’s talking about. Modified watches do not and will not trade for more than they were purchased for at retail. Demand for them just isn’t that high.

your buddy is WRONG

your buddy is going to end up with a $$$$$$ paper weight POS. Whatever he gets will not appreciate in value...EVER. There will be no market for it and he will be lucky to sell it for 1/3 of what he paid, if even that.

However your watch given enough time will either hold value or rise :)

Support your buddy's delusion, he may get violent when reality sets in.

People do buy them and they do resell but trust me mine took a lot off hard work to sell it.

Fwiw the coating can be removed back in Switzerland but it isn’t easy . I was going to get mine removed then have RSC service it then either keep it or sell it once it was done then out off the Blue a buyer contacted me and bought it as a graduation present .

You should tell your buddy's friend that you asked around and he's totally right! He should buy more, like at least three of them, it's like free money when those thing's go through the roof.

That's what a good friend would do.

Once your buddy gets his watch, why don't you take him to a store that sells used Rolex, and see what they will offer for your watch and his.
I don't think he will be the one bragging then.

Your buddy’s friend is a clueless idiot! Enjoy your factory Daytona as it is a beauty

Buddy is an idiot. Like a 16 year old adding a spoiler to his 1998 honda civic saying “it adds to the cars value and makes it go faster.” Modded watches are just poor taste.

I'm surprised no-one mentioned here who the target is for this sort of pieces. As none of us either is the target customer for mod-rolexes.

They target those wealthy individuals who own several highly pricy modern art pieces, modified lamborghinis, multiple awkward Richard Mille, people who don't view themselves as conventional owners.
Around this cercle are also those who think they want something well known, not mainstream, and are ready to pay the premium for it.... and regret it later on maybe.

Most of us here are traditionalist rolex owners who appreciate the timeless value of the craftsmanship we wear. I guess we're just in a different paradigm than those Bamford customers.

I must admit I don't feel well when seing one in RL. I know it's hard to get a normal Daytona, and such a chance to own one in the way it was issued straight from Rolex factory.
Bamford's customers don't have that problem.

Rolex appart.... I must say that Bamford Monaco look really sexy!

Well, he’s just ignorant. Simple as that. I’d just smile and move on.

BUT, as a separate matter I don’t understand the hate for modifications. It’s somewhat inconsistent with the love for vintage, patina, tropical etc Rolex and others. Modified by age, or by the oven (or by chemicals) is super sought after but these modern mods are not?

This is one of the coolest and appealing Daytona’s I’ve seen in years. Modified, yes. But funnily enough with the premium for a regular Daytona these days the mods almost seem justified (from a purchase price perspective).
