OP is spot on. Rolex watches are not unavailable, they are just becoming exclusive. The sought-after watches will be available only to an exclusive clientele.

I believe these are the emerging trends in Rolex's distribution strategy;
1. Selling locally
2. Selling to the known and exclusive clientele

So going forward the best strategy to get that Rolex we absolutely want is to stay loyal to our local AD and earn the exclusivity status.

When we were in London, I found it interesting that the roads leading to Harrod's were chock-full of Ferrari, Aston Martin, etc. Here in the USA people who own those cars typically keep them in garages and never drive them. In London they all had curb rashed wheels and were left outside.

This is where I differ with most opinions here. There has always been that World Order where the incredibly rich and moderately famous are treated better/differently and allowed access to things us "normal" folks are not.

The recent alleged shortage of common Rolex models is just shifting the line a little bit.

Especially in the summer. People ship their cars over from the middle east, stay at The Dorchester hotel and spend the summer in London doing all the things they cant do at home (if you know what I mean)

No point having them if you leave them in the garage!

Not too different from people who keep their watch collection in the safe and not wear them
