Hello friends, do any of you feel like you should’ve started your collections before

I heard someone say to “buy all your toys before you get married”. Is there any truth? Thanks

Today I’m wearing my SD43 btw.

I think the expression is "have all your fun before you get married".

Was collecting watches and chasing other expensive hobbies before I got married. Wore my favorite Rolex when I first met my wife. She thought it was an “Old Man’s” watch
Now that we are married, nothing has changed and I am still pursuing my hobbies, interests, and traveling. I imagine that will change eventually not because of marriage, but because of the patter of little feet.

Marry the right woman and it is all good. Married 23 years and my toys just keep getting more and more expensive and my wife is just as supportive.

I got married in a SD43 actually. She knows it’s my passion and understands it’s give and take. She has an OP 34.

Wives (or should I say spouses) are like death...

They will take away all you ever were, and all you will ever be.

Actually I am just joking That was a quote about “killing” given by Clint Eastwood’s character in the movie “Unforgiven.”

But yes, try to get your toys, your motorcycle, your sports car, your Rolexes before marriage because afterwards it’s not your money ... it’s hers.

I only think you should have started the Rolex part of it before 2018, AD games are far worse than any spouse's these days.

The guys that say thay just have unsupportive spouses. You should get married to someone who enjoys the same types of things as you and will support you.

Agree. Married for twelve years and my wife is more than supportive of my pursuits.

That said, my wife was equally supportive while we were dating, so that was a good sign of things to come.

Marry the right person and you won’t have anything to worry about.

I started in 2005 but didn't realise I was a watch enthusiast, I bought my second great watch in 2010 and my next two in 2019, so my collecting has been intermittent at best.

Now semi retired and with a wife who supports my hobby I hope to be able to buy some quality watches in the years ahead and with luck pass them on to my children and maybe grandchildren.

Whether any of them will share my enthusiasm remains to be seen, they'll probably just sell them and spend the money.

Hehe there are at least a few one-way doors in life. Ones you can't really look through first, and simply can't be un-lived:
Finding out Santa isn't real, getting married, having a kid... having 3 kids, and so on and so forth.

But in terms of toys, yeah it's a bit easier to get those whilst not married. Just the way it is.
