YG Day-Date 40 228238 or YG Submariner 116618
The Rolex Genie in the bottle - asks you to choose 1 watch and to explain why.
Lets have some fun, and eliminate all conversational variables - ie) age, wrist size , other pieces in the collection, etc etc ... (too many to list) A simple this or that .... Which yellow gold icon and why. I tried to add a poll to this post, I hope it works |

I am contemplating the exact same move right now and am undecided. Taking the wife to the AD for her opinion. I can’t vote yet but will watch this post with interest.

DD
DD YG is the flagship while Sub should be SS, if you must ask. |

In gold I’d pick the submariner, Daytona and if I wanted fluted the skydweller over the day date but you can’t go wrong with any of the above.
Here’s my sub |

I'd go with the Sub, unless you like the Day Date

Would have said Sub until a few weeks ago when I got my DD. It's next level over the professional models imo

I vote for the sub.
Because for a 40mm watch, I would prefer a sports watch, not a dress/casual watch Now if the DD was a 36mm, then I would really think more about it |

If you HAD to choose only one it would 100% be a DD40.

The Rolex Genie did pay me a visit a few months ago and I had to make this decision. I went with the 228238 over the 116618LB. The dealer had both of them in the case. Make no mistake, I love the 18k Sub but the Day-Date won out. It is the modern version of the first Rolex I took notice of back in 1979 when I started to get into watches at the age of 16. Realistically, I will also end up owning the Sub also, but the Day-Date was to be the first PM.

In YG I don't want a gold bezel as well as that is just too much, so I prefer the YG Subc, and the RG DD40.

Submariner. I am biased because I own one. Love it. I did happen to try on a DD40 and it was underwhelming compared to my Sub. Especially on a bigger wrist size.

They're both great watches, but if it can only be one, then without question it's the sub...for me, anyway.
Unless you're lucky, getting a good fit with the DD bracelet can be tricky, at best, and the sub, with the glide lock, is a slam dunk. Especially so since you're talking about a much heavier watch, as it's gold. |

I have grappled with this same issue. I have leaned more towards the DD40 due to having several Rolex watches that are blue including a WG sub.

I have a DD40 and am leaning toward trading it for 116618lb because it isn’t comfortable all the time.
