Should I flip Deep Blue for a Singer?

Hey Fellas, help me out here. I love my DSSD Blue but I went to the Auto Show last night specifically to see the Singer "restored" Porsche. Should I flip?

The DSSD is powered by the amazing 3135 movement, arguably the most successful and best all round movement Rolex makes. I personally love the high pitched high beat whine of the 3135 in my DSSD, which is only heard on the quietest of evenings.

But the Singer takes a 3.6 and punches it out to race spec 4.0 throwing away everything but the "numbers matching" case. I suspect it also has a pretty decent whine when you hit the loud peddle.

Of course, the thing I worry about is the size. The Singer just wears small. A modern Porsche is a big beast of a car; hugely oversized compared to the classics and full of excessive technology and performance that frankly, the average owner will never need or appreciate. The DSSD is also a beast, hugely oversized compared to the classics and with a 12,800ft Ring Lock powered dive rating that frankly, no human can even survive.

The Singer is just small. Like 40mm Sea Dweller small (even Rolex admits that was ridiculous and finally addressed the issue with the new SD@43mm). I mean, the Singer is bigger than a 70's 911 (which are silly 36mm DateJust small), but will I be able to adjust to the size of the Singer after wearing the Deep Blue?

I'm torn fellas. I figure if I'm able to flip my Deep Blue for a premium I will be only $490,000 Dollars short. That's going to be an awkward conversation with the wife. Like really awkward. Like that time she asked me about a large bar tab on my credit card at a place called Baby Dolls (It was a "work thing" honey). This may even be out of the "wine and flowers" territory.

So I turn to this distinguished forum for advice... what would you do?

Keep the watch, sell the house and get a separate credit and debit card

However...I will gladly donate precious breathe that i'll never get back to hear what the other distinguished forum members opine on this subject.

I would opt for a 918 over the DSSD.

Keep the DSSD. Singer is nice but just too darn expensive.

In a sense, you should perhaps be trading in a Bamford Daytona for a Singer 911, although I would much prefer the latter.

What I'm trying to wrap my head around is why you have a half million to blow on an old car....don't care how badass it is...but you have to sell the watch to fund the rest of it...which I'm sure you don't ...and the 40mm Sea Dweller....WILL ALWAYS be ....the classic standard size that Rolex adheres to....Save your cash...or go with what the Doc advised....and yes, I'm a car guy too...

If you can flip a d-blue for a Singer, then let me know as well and I will gladly trade mine in for one of those cars !

I assume there would be some cash either way on that deal :-)

Before I opened this thread I had never heard of a Singer-restored Porsche. A few clicks and Youtube videos later, wow! Fascinating story and amazing cars.

Does the Singer have a clock in it?.... If not I wouldn't bother - you'll always regret not being able to tell the time!

If it does then why do you need more than one tool to tell the time?

Now if you use your watch for diving it does have the slight edge over the Porsche!...

Well, if you'd sell me your DSSD blue for 10 even, I'll help present the car as a can't miss investment and your wife will bring you flowers. :)

Well......having owned 25 +/- Porsches in my life and having sold over 1,000 of them since 1989, all I can say is you can do what Singer did for $150K-200K, including the cost of a good bodyshell from a donor car.

Been there, and did it myself for a client back in 2008.
