I keep my non quickset date watches on the winder, but the quickset date watches I don't bother with. I just wind, set the time and date and wear them. The non-quickset date models stay on the winder to prevent excessive cannon pinion wear by manually advancing the hands to set the date to correct date. Rapid hand rotation like that can wear the CP and cause the watch to need repair.

watchmakers will say that unless your winder is very sophisticated with programs set for your watches, they will overwork your watches and ruin then over time.

it seems to vary ever month or so but have about 10 automatics. I used to rotate two at a time literally alternating days or wearing another when I got home but I personally am obsessed with timekeeping and didn't want to think this watch is +4 seconds/day, this is -1 seconds/day, etc.

Eventually I got to a point where I get bored of a watch and then go to the safe and then pick out another one and wear that for maybe 3 weeks or so, or a day, depends on the mood. But yeah it's wind, set, and wear each time. This is why I don't like complex calendars and GMTs, it makes the setting process pretty simple.

Do people with multiple watches have winders or do you just manually set it every time you wear it? The reason why I ask is because I read a thread on I think on RF that said manually winding everyday is not recommended as automatics weren't meant to be respring/wound by hand so often. In a bit of a pickle.
I have a Sub and DJ, alternate daily between the two so each goes about 15 hours on the wrist followed by 33 hours off. Once a month I adjust the time, date if needed, and give both a full wind. Working well so far...

If you change watches daily or daytime to evening then sure use of a winder makes sense;
Otherwise just pick one up set it and wear it.

I am obviously in the minority here as I have 4 automatics for myself and 2 for the wife and two hand wound watches of my own. I keep all 6 automatics on the Wolf modular winders and hand wind the manuals every day. I typically rotate all watches every day as I generally don't wear the same watch two days in a row. I like to see all watches working and keeping time so prefer to keep them on winders. I also like to see the general accuracy of all of the watches. Once a week, I will generally reset/synchronize all watches to give that bonding experience and also to see how accurate each watch is.

This is my answer .
Don't see the need for a winder. Takes 30 seconds to set. Also, I don't feel the need for my watches to constantly be running at all times

I have at least ten automatic watches and no winders.

I just spend a little time setting the watch I will be wearing when I put it on.

If time were a factor, I'd wind and set the watch the night before, but in my circumstances, time is not an issue.

I know it's a hot topic among many, but for me setting my watches is part of the joy of ownership and this applies to my quartz watches as well.

In the good old one-watch-guy days, I didn't have to worry about this.

Now, I enjoy winding and setting the one I will wear that day if needed.

In truth, Rolex do now have a complication which might merit using a winder.....the Cellini Moonphase. From the videos, it takes some serious setting up, including knowing the phases, to set the watch initially.

When I want to wear a watch, I take it out and wind it up.

The watches that are not being worn rest comfortably in their watch spa.

I have swung both ways on this subject.
For years, never used one.
Now, that I have many automatic watches, and wear them all depending on my mood that day, I love opening my safe and seeing all my winders, with any watch ready to go.
The heck with the winding experience.
Once in a blue moon, I'll purposely let it run out and wind all over again. But I do that when I want to, not when I need to.
