Dano,
You don't always have to spend $3k + to retail from the market.
Look for used and see if you can find a minty condition watch that you like.
There is no other feelings than buying new from AD @ MSRP but this is the time we live in, we have to be smart.

You can get a nice Speedmaster for around $3K. It's a great watch. You can also look into Tudor for around the same price range. Both different than Rolex but equally nice in their own way.

However, if you really want another Rolex - don't settle. Get what you want.

I concur with those who suggested avoiding spending on something that you’re not super charged up to own.

I recently branched out a bit by picking up my first PAM, first GS, and first Omega, the SMP black/Sedna on rubber, and I couldn’t be happier with the newfound variety in the collection.

People here really like Rolex but I rarely see someone flamed for wanting something from another brand. It is a great world of watches out there.

Think about vintage you can get a nice 5513 from s trusted seller to go with your new sub. I’ve been doing it and still trying to do it.

Have a 66 vintage speedy and waiting for the 50th anniversary watch to come in.

Have a 16769 fat lady and new BLNR.
Have a 168000 sub and waiting for my hulk to come in.

Looking for a 16520 to pair up with my black 509c when it comes in.
I like pairing old and new.
Best part about vintage is there’s plenty to choose from with no wait.

A direct substitute or competitor for a SS rolex professional model in the $8k to $12k MSRP range is oddly enough difficult to find. But there a lot a nice watches from Zenith, Omega, IWC, etc. to buy for a lot less.

Explorer II is not hard to get at retail. If you make a deposit you should have one in a reasonable time at an AD. I would never buy stuff just to buy because you cannot get the Rolex you want.

Exactly - never paid premium for a mass produce watch.
Better save your money and get a PP or AP ..
Even Glashütte is better watch

“Man on the mother Fn Moon baby!” is a must have in any watch collection imo! I love it but once you walk out the door it looses value unlike a ss gmt, sub, or Daytona.

I’ve talked to 10 different ADs. All said “not available, no idea when we will get one, maybe after the new year” A couple chuckled when I asked the question, one said “all I have is a milgaus “. 2 of the ADs I had bought watches from before. Davidsw Takura and others wants $1400 or more over retail.

Anyone see one in an AD, please send me a PM.

Sure, venture towards other brands. However, I must caution you that if you try to fill a Rolex void with another brand, it will probably not scratch the itch. You might end up spending more than even ponying up for a reasonable premium.

If you decide to try other brands because your mind is open, then you will find other watches that you may want even more.

I mainly have Rolex, but I do have a Longine Diver a Cartier Roadster (noticed they are creeping in price in second hand lately), and a Hermes apple watch. I'm looking to get one at least of the well known brands ( not necessarily expensive) in my collection. PP, AP, Bregue, IWC, Lange, Breitling, Omega for now. I think the moment you get 2 or 3 Rolex then start looking elsewhere for other watches too. I only look to buy the most representative model for the brand, but only if I like it, otherwise will pick the one I like because I can't wear a watch that I don't like because it's the trendy one or most sought after.

I am ready to move on to another brand. I have 4 Rolex pieces and while I can spend the rest of my life "rounding" out my Rolex collection I think it's time to move on to another brand. Otherwise I will just keep "chasing" it.

In my watch wearing history, I have owned 4 Rolex, 4 Omega, 1 Chopard and 1 Tag Heuer and 1 Panerai.
Not all at the same time mind, but when I had anything other than a Rolex, I lusted over having another Rolex all the time, nothing compares.
The Omega's are really good now, the Chopard Mille Miglia was alright but the oscillating weight become loose, the Tag Heuar F1 was my first decent(ish) watch and the Panerai 510 was fine until condensation appeared on the inside of the watch face.. That was send back to Watch Finder and repaired but I soon sold it.

Buy it ("it' being whatever you decide) because you want it, not just because you have a credit.

Me, personally, I bought the new Seamaster. I can't do any of the newer Brietlings any more, either too flashy or too big for my delicate wrists, and the old ones are just too... old. LOL.

Lots of people go for the Speedmaster. Classic, and plenty of models to choose from.

Your money, your rule.

Just make sure you buy at a decent discount when you buy those other brands, because unlike Rolex nobody pays MSRP for those other brands.

^ This. You're not cheating on your wife. If you buy what you like it will always bring value.

You need to do what makes you happy. A moonwatch is definitely on my radar. Just bought too many this year. SS sub no date, Seamaster 300M blue wave dial, Heuer Heritage Auravia and Cartier MC tank. I love to rotate between them. Each one of them makes me happy when I wear them.

How did you come to have a credit with a gray dealer anyway? Get a watch that is easy to sell, or just buy on behalf of someone else to release the credit.

If you must have another watch I would then suggest buying a Grand Seiko or Citizen Chronomaster.

I would not buy a Breitling unless you have a buyer lined up who will pay you the same you bought it for. Speedy maybe.

Go for it, explore elsewhere and try something new! Things will eventually change and you can always come back later.
